Recently, I've noticed there are a lot more under 18 year-old members joining the site. Personally, I think there could be potential liability and safety issues involved with these seeing how they are not considered adults. Crazy teenagers, I remember when I was one. haha Let's discuss because hey-ai hasn't had enough controversy brewing lately. In all seriousness though, I think this is an important topic.

Yeah, but people can lie about anything. If the rules are set in stone and a person knowingly violates it, then at least an effort was made to prevent this sort of thing from happening. It would really suck if hey-ai developed a bad reputation for adults picking up underaged members. Being a member of the community ourselves, I think it reflects poorly on us too.

I totally agree with age limit restrictions!I think that it's very risky keeping 12y.o as a limit since this site even if it says:promotes friendship between AM/nonAF it's still in a way a dating site.And since underage memebers may be an easy prey for malicious people,it would better be to avoid this kind of exposer for them(i know that it might sound unfair for the underaged members,and rude to the community,but there always can be some odd person joining this palce intentionally)

In theory we should. However in practice I don't think it works and we're better off without it.

As mentioned above if we put an age limit people will just lie to get in. Without an age limit they'll be honest about their age then we will know for sure and beware of them.

Otherwise you might be on a date, and have sex with a minor without knowing it. If the adult does so despite knowing in then he/she will suffer the consequences and take responsibility.

We have in mind to find in long-term a technical solution to this problem, like they are implemented in Tagged or elsewhere.
(Like, minors can only be contacted by people who are up to 2 years older than they or something). As we have a long list of other stuff that needs to be done and such a thing is quite complicated, it might take till the end of this year or the beginning of the new year till we can tackle this problem.

Moving the minimum age from 12 to 14 or something could be discussed, but I think moving it to 18 would be a bad idea.
A lot of younger people would probably sneak in and only lie about their age, leading to guys approaching underage girls believing they're of legal age, and people posting even more sexual stuff, saying "everyone here is an adult, why not post sexual content".

Also, the 16-18 year olds belong to our core user group and show a much better guy:girl ratio; from an economical point of view it would be more reasonable for Hey-Ai to block everyone over 25 than to block people under 18 XD

If you guys see anyone approaching a girl that seems too young for him, report it to the admins please =)

Yes, i think it should be changed to 18+
for obvious reasons..maturity.. adult topics... social behaviors (drinking)going out
ppl seeking underage relationships.. etc..
plus teenagers can be annoying.

no age limits o_o its not like we who are 18+ gotta talk about 18+ material around those ppl or to them? as long as everyone 18+ behaves its gonna be alright?
