I am planning on visiting Germany in August and I am wondering what are good places to visit. I've heard many good things about Berlin and Hamburg. Thanks.

maybe you'd like Munich as well, it's quite a big and exciting city too. Oh and btw Düsseldorf has the largest Asian population in Germany apparently haha

At August there are a big Games Convention called Games Com in Köln.
A lot of people will be there.

Btw. in the east side Leipzig/Dresden there are quite a lot of asians too.

I would say Essen, Düsseldorf and Dortmund.

come to our beautiful city Dresden, so much things and places here, old baroque city center, and on the other hand newtown with much party places and bars

I really like Hamburg and Cologne.

If you're staying in Hamburg, I'd recommend to visit Luebeck for one day. It's a nice historical city but too small to spend more days there.
