well berlin sounds like a good idea but if you're wishing you could see multiple cities closer together, you could try the state nordrhein-westfalen. the largest city there is cologne and the big cities are much closer together there. as far as berlin i'm not sure what would really be worth visiting outside of the city during the grim european weather. i would just make it all about berlin itself.

I would recommend my beautiful Dresden,
but what do you want to see? We have alot possibilities here,
beautiful baroque old buildings in "Altstadt" and a wonderful Panorama on river Elbe.
Also alot Clubs and Bars in "Neustadt" the newer part.
We have some Shopping Centres and a big Park called "Großer Garten" with Zoo and so on ^^

Maybe you interested, I can take time to show you a bit around :) Hostels are very cheap in the Neustadt.

Ah and also if you like to hiking and climbing I recommend the "Sächsische Schweiz" near :)

There's a cool castle/estate in a city near Berlin called Potsdam (not sure what the castle is called but it should be the main focal point of the city), there's the Brandenburg Gate and the Rathaus in Berlin is an impressive building.

My favorite cities in Germany are Mannheim, Bad Kreuznach, Wiesbaden, Heidelberg, Trier, Mainz, Koln, and Munich, never been to Hamburg or Dresden but I'd like to someday.

Germany is rich in history, I really dig going to Cathedrals and marveling at that shit, also museums, lots of excellent food, friendly people/locals, and great wine.

Dude, the nightlife in Berlin should be amazing. Never been to Berlin for the nightlife, but I bet that's awesome.
