"german is pretty difficult". es liegt aber nicht an der sprache selbst sondern an euch sprechern, nicht weil deutsch tatsächlich schwer wäre sondern weil ihr muttersprachler schnell sprecht. diese sprache allein an sich ist die einfachste unter den sprachen, mit denen ich berührung gehabt habe. ein beweis: als schriftsprache ist deutsch leicht zu lesen, weil dabei dessen sprecher keine rolle spielen

Zu lesen ist Deutsch ziemlich einfach, das Selbstsprechen und -schreiben eher schwieriger, vor allem wegen der verschiedenen Kasi & Artikel, welche in der deutschen Grammatik einfach zuhauf vorhanden sind (im Gegensatz zu romanischen oder asiatischen Sprachen).

take a class if you have zero or close to zero background in that language.
talking to/skyping with a native speaker can only help when you have learnt that language for some time. I believe you can learn more though youtube videos.
