X-Japan, Luna Sea, Malice Mizer, Versailles Philharmonic Quintet, Moi dix Mois, Penicillin, Rouage, L'Arc-en-Ciel and GLAY are some of Japanese "visual kei" and "J-rock" bands I like. I'm not too crazy about "visual kei" scene since Luna Sea and X-Japan initially broke up. And I personally don't get all this hype about GazettE either.

I've recently listened to One Ok Rock and thought they were quite good. But I think that's more towards the alternative j rock LoL..

One thing that I truly give Japanese music scene a credit is this.

I grew up in the 80's, which was the glorious era of heavy metal music. But by the time of the 90's, I became extremely disappointed with Western metal scene, and began to feel that I will never be able to experience things I've once experienced in the 80's, for the rest of my life. In other word, I began to feel that the time of my musical enlightenment equals to what I've experienced with bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest in the 80's is basically over.(There were some good bands since the 90's too but none matched with what was offered back in the 80's)

THEN, I discovered X-Japan. And this was the first time I've experienced something as amazing and majestic as I have felt as what I've once experienced in the 80's. I remember thinking then that Japanese "visual kei" was the only musical genre that was able to do this.

But I was sure that this was it...

THEN, four years ago, I discovered Versailles Philharmonic Quintet. I was totally overwhelmed! I was in the state of awe that Japan was able to produce, not one, but TWO bands that made me re-lived the glorious ethos that I've once experienced back in the 80's!!!!!

LOL that Swedish kid....What about Seremedy then?

Anyway, these are just the bands that I have bought tickets to...(and would again):

Miyavi (had to have surgery so didn't go)
TM Revolution
Dir En Grey
Vamps (met Hyde & Kaz ever so briefly)
L'arc en Ciel
The Sound Bee HD (w/ Kazuha of Blood)

And it all started with X Japan (when I met Yoshiki) for me....

A good place based in N.America (and now Tokyo)to find out about bands / tours : jrockerstar21.blogspot.ca (not promoting for anyone...just sayin')
