What exactly is the blocking option for?

It doesn't stop users from writing on my wall or sending me connection requests over and over again.

I sometimes feel a bit harrassed by guys who just don't want to accept, that I have no interest in talking to them. I haven't figured out a way to stop them from bothering me.

So what is the use of the blocking option?
