what about privacy regarding private data and mails? was created by Nic Dreamer

Alright. Something terrifying has happened. Now i need you guys to tell me stuff concerning my private data and mails in here. Can any admin and moderator basically just read all my emails whenever they want and look at my private data? Or is it only viewable for karyuu and Tenshi? Honest answer please!

This is seriously disturbing if any of it is true. There should have been disclaimers letting us all know that upon registration. WTF, why wasn't anyone notified of this?

What other forum would that be? I've managed forums before as mod and we couldn't read other members private messages. That's messed up plain and simple. Members should have been notified in bold letters of this before signing up.

I assure you that none of the mods can read your private messages or see any of your private data. So what happens in your inbox/outbox stays in your inbox/outbox

It's a fan based game forum. The mods can't read PM's but Admins can.

I used to be an admin of 1 forum among several, and even there with admin status, none of us could read other members PM unless someone messed up enough to go and change that user's password and log in as them. Which would all still be unethical as hell and severe violation of privacy - especially if they could read our private communications by default without even needing to reset anything or other underhanded measures.
As long as the ability to take advantage is there, there will be those who abuse this power.

They still should have let members know this upon sign up in big capital letters.

Not an admin, don't know. I'm going to say that it's highly unlikely that they can or would even want to (who are we the NSA? Lol). Anyways, like I said shoot Tenshi a PM.

To the topic itself: As I wrote Nic Dreamer via PM before I found they opened this forum thread as well:

Basically yes. Old PMs (i.e. more than 4 years) are stored in plaintext and can be read by anyone with databse access. PMs sent after the Crypto-update are encrypted and not easily readable. By German law we are not allowed to read your PMs unless there is a legal inquery, e.g. by the Police. If we read your PMs (even the once stored in plaintext from over 4 years ago), we conduct a felony.
