Agreed. That movie also has the most impressive time-lapse shot in any movie I've seen too, and the actor actually stood on the roof all night to film it, making it even more impressive.
"Hanging Garden" by the same filmmaker (Toshiaki Toyoda) is his best film to date I think. It lacks his energetic filming style of his earlier films, but it's the most mature and overall satisfying (and happy) one yet. I remember thinking at the end, "Wow, that was a perfect film." This was the film that should have won him the awards and attention he deserves, but after he got caught with some drugs, his reputation and directing career in Japan took a major hit.
In Hollywood, Aaron Sorkin also got caught with drugs, but he still had a successful career.
Sorry to rant... just pleased to see Toyoda's films get mentioned in this thread since he's so unknown and underrated for being such a talented filmmaker.

Can anyone recommend me any movies that are in the style of the Hong Kong action movies of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Jet Li etc. from the 1980s - 90s (besides Tony Jaa's work, and Donnie Yen's work such as Ip Man 1 & 2, SPL, etc.)?
What else have I missed out on?
Thanks in advance.

Indian flicks with synchronized dancing in every plot twist never seize to amaze me, highly recommend. Yes Indians are Asians as well.

Red Cliff. It's about the battle of red cliffs during the three kingdoms period of China. If you like chinese history I highly recommend the book "Romance of the Three Kingdoms"

Ah NO. Idians are not Asian. IF that were the case why no include Arabs, Russians, Turks, Hungarians. Come on. India is a "SubContinent" with a culture so distinct. By Asian people mean some derivative of Chinese Culture and People from 5000 years ago.

Just by Western, we mean Greek and Roman

By Middle Eastern we Mean Arabs influence of 1500 years ago.

Russians, Turks, and the Meditarranean presents a problem.

But any movie by John Woo and/or Chow Yun Fat from the 80s and 90s are good.

Action: Bullet in Head; Better Tomorrow; Killer; Hard-boiled

Drama: All about Ah Long; Autumns Tale;
