Well they don't seem AS shallow or obsessed with their looks/bodies. And not just looking to party (one was getting married?).
I just REALLY hated Jersey SHore and never would watch it cuz I lived in the area for 3 years...
Hmmm maybe more like the OC or something, they seem like they have more money than those formerly broke douchbags (now they get $1k just to show up at a club?!). Though reality shows have never been my thing and I see how this could get annoying.

It could be understood from an economic point of view why this was done. I think that human beings are predisposed to seek out excitement and drama, for better or for worse, the same way many people crave junk food for its excessive fat, sugar, salt, etc. And in the super-capitalist society we live in, if there is a niche, then its sell sell sell for TV companies. I would think of Jersey shore as the Italian flavor of junk food television, and maybe this would be like the Asian flavor
