It really depends on the case!
For me there are types of people you flirt with:

1. People you already know
2. People you don't know YET

So I'm actually a really flirtatious person naturally. I just make everything seem smooth and I say the cheesiest and funniest stuff ever. But that's usually because I already know the person. It's easier for me to make flirtatious comments to someone that I already know than to people I don't know yet since we haven't made the first impression. So for example with the people I do know. I just mirror the other person a bit. They say ''Good morning'' and strike an interesting conversation? I do as well. If they don't and only give dry *** answers, I usually let it go or I tell them why I don't wanna continue the conversation or why I don't respond that much back either. So when all of this goes ''well' and I have known these people for a longer while; I just expect a certain energy and have a feeling with what I can and cannot say.

EXAMPLE:
Person: ''Hey! What are you doing today?''.
Me : ''Hello! I was planning on doing you. Jk tho''

Flirting just goes really naturally for me. It doesn't always need to be sexual but I usually prefer the sexual flirting jokes!

SO NEXT TO THE OTHER ONE. People we don't know yet.
This is actually a hard one for me to answer. I'm kinda guy shy. I usually let the person come to me instead of me walking towards them. So I will give a few examples how that works even tho I'm guy shy!

EXAMPLE 1: The guy I had my eyes on for awhile, walks up to me first. Let me tell you this. IF THEY WEREN'T INTERESTED IN YOU THEY WOULDN'T BE TALKING TO YOU. So it's okay to be a little bold! He strikes the conversation and you reply. If this is in real life.. You can read their body language as well. I usually try to make a lot of eye-contact, try to laugh a lot _{(I laugh at pretty much everything)} and listen to what the person has to say. I also ask the person questions, to let them know I'M INTERESTED as well.

EXAMPLE 2: I see this gorgeous person. We had made eye-contac but he doesn't walk up to you. It's either because he isn't interested or it's because he is actually shy as well. Tbh there is only ONE WAY to find out before the night ends and you want to show that you are interested. You need to make a choice. Let him walk away or maybe meet a fun person!
So I've been in a situation that my friend walks up to the person or that I walk to the person myself. It's fine eitherways.
Usually when your friend does it for you, he will check you out more and he will walk up to you.
If you plan on walking to the person yourself. You need to make sure you have something to say and not freeze without moving and saying anything. So what I usually do when I walk up to a person myself. I just say ''Hey! I just wanted to say you're really handsome''. I like being honest and it kinda feels like you are flirting already. I feel like that's a great way to start a conversation but also let them know you're interested.

BTW everyone gets rejected sometimes in their lives. Or you just don't connect on a certain level and that's okay. It happens!
