Well personally I like the "skinhead" look. As long as there is some
hair on that scalp I would be happy. I really don't like the completely
bald where your head shines in the sun. That's just gross in my
opinion. lol. But no extremes either guys who's hair is longer than
mine is just a major turn-off. All in all some hair good too much hair
not good. lol :P

i'm really bothered by the use of the term "skinhead" that's being used so loosely within this thread.

having a bald shaved head or "bic'ed" head is NOT the same as being a skinhead.

just my 2 cents.

well the thing is skinhead has been used to describe racial groups
and other thingd. For example in Richmond, VA there is a gang
there called the skinheads, and as you can imagine they are all
white guys with their heads shaved. Now using the term skinhead
in my opinion just depends in what context you use it. If you take
the literal meaning of the words skin and head guess what it's
supposed to mean the skin of the head...(shocking I know). Why
do you feel bothered by the term??

because it all points to a racial term that denotes a negative culture.

let's just say, we substitute the term in use "skinhead" for "gay"
the word gay stems from the correlation of homosexuality.
now if someone used that term, "Hey, stop being so gay!"
of course, this person is using in a way that means, "stupid" "wrong" "weird.
but all this, leads back to homophobia and prejudice, which inadvertently promotes homophobia and prejudice to continue on...

JUST LIKE USING THE TERM "SKINHEAD"

well you see the truth of the matter is that the true meaning of the word gay is...
1. having or showing a merry, lively mood: gay spirits; gay music.
2. bright or showy: gay colors; gay ornaments.
3. given to or abounding in social or other pleasures: a gay social season.
4. licentious; dissipated; wanton: The baron is a gay old rogue with an eye for the ladies.

that's straight from a dictionary. now I don't argue that it does correlate with homosexuality but that wasn't the origin of the word. just because some idiot decided to express themselves with that word in a negative way it has changed the whole demeanor of it. like i sad before its all in the context of it being used. you can use it to express negativity or not.

let's analyze the true meaning of skinhead sall we:
1. a baldheaded man.
2. a person with closely cropped hair or a shaved head.
3. a marine recruit; boot.
4. an antisocial person who affects a hairless head as a symbol of rebellion, racism, or anarchy.

so in conclusion the context in which the word is used gives its true meaning.

The first skinheads were greatly influenced by West Indian (specifically Jamaican) rude boys and British mods, in terms of fashion, music and lifestyle. Originally, the skinhead subculture was primarily based on those elements, not politics or race.

But by the late 70's the skinhead look had been taken on by groups that promoted racism and neo-Nazism...

you are technically right.
just think about it though, the social majority will view and understand those two terms, "skinhead" and "gay" as derogatory. therefore, your exact belief of that, you are in the social minority.

yes, of course it's all about how you use a word but in this day and age, social majority rules... and more than likely if you use those terms today, the majority of people will listen to it and will connect it with it's (terms) negative roots.

so why not just eliminate the use of those words, but of course that won't happen, so then why don't we use those terms in a more correct manner.
i.e. not using the word skinhead to classify a counter-culture that been created in a asian communism regime.
it's just counter-productive!
the misuse of words to classify things in particular has become more and more common these days. ugh!
