Here's a Cracked video:

Do you think there's merit to it? Using science to find love? Or people using dating sites to portray/maybe become the idealized versions of themselves?

Are we that different off of here?

I think we "lie" or portray ourselves in a certain manner only partly because we want to impress someone. The other part is because it is very hard to be authentic in the first place. The best and at the same time worst advice that has ever been given in the dating world is surely to "be yourself". In order to be yourself, you first have to know who you truly are. Some people spend their whole life seeking the answer to this ageless question.

Self-perception or the lack thereof plays a big role here. You don't really have to be consciously beautifying your profile. People lie to themselves all the time. Just because you think that you are a person with attribute Y doesn't mean that you really have attribute Y. Hell, people can believe everything. I will try to illustrate my point with a simple example. There are people on this world who believe from the bottom of their hearts that the earth is flat. But it doesn't mean that it is true. But it also doesn't mean that they are lying to you. They believe they are saying the truth.

It's getting to a point where people can act fake in real life and online.

The thing is by looking at people's profiles online, it clearly shows what kind of person they actually are. Some of the immature, aloof things that some people say on here...you pretty much get a clear view of that person as someone who doesn't put much effort in looking at their life at a meaningful level (YOLO = just having funz). And the mostly blank, little to no detailed profiles...yeah I get that they're just wanting to pass time and see what this site is all about.

Yes a profile info is so crystal clear on someone's personality, it's like what's the point in talking to someone on a personal level when I can just pass judgement purely based off profile information

Yep, pretty much. So far I got success from doing that and talking to those who stated in their profile that they're open to talk to anyone. ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ

It's not worth getting to know a person in real life if the environment he/she is in is not a place where people can be relaxed and composed.

Well I was being sarcastic lol

And you have a point honestly, its just that reading the word "clearly" is like hearing nails on a chalkboard. To me the whole dating match thing is bs because you're pretty much throwing a potential good relationship (whether intimate or not) because of this whole preconceive notion of "what should be the 'perfect' match". So in a way, I think you miss out in a lot by just throwing people aside with such ease.

And to your last point, all I gotta say is different strokes for different folks ;)

Edit: Actually im a little unclear about what you exactly mean by "environment" though cause for some reason I assume you're talking about girls into kpop or something lol

haha I thought you was serious for a bit there ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ

Well, people throw other people aside with such ease when they're done hooking up or "dating". Most relationships don't last long and a couple think that a relationship will keep them happy. Sure I miss out on some people, but I think it's for the best as those people probably don't care about me or anyone else from a meaningful standpoint.

Well think of it this way...can you talk clearly when music is blasting in the nightclub or bar? Is that person you met at those places relationship material? Just saying. ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
