Do you know any good apps that allow you to watch movies with your online friends?

For those of you in long distance relationships, I'm sure you have discovered what my bf calls, "Long Distance Movie Night." For those of you who do not know, this is where you both download a movie and sync it up to watch together while chatting. I've been trying to get Rexy and my bf to watch the remake of Battlestar Galactica, which would be easier to do if I could use an app to stream the videos myself and invite them both to watch in a group chat.

Has anyone ever done this and have any good recommendations?

I found an app called Synaptop, but it only plays FLV or MP4 files. Has anyone used this app or any others?

Also, anyone else interested in joining a Hey-Ai movie night or is that breaking a site rule?

But I think that only works for Youtube videos? Google chat plays videos too, I think. But again, I think that's just Youtube.

Yeah, we can't watch it on YouTube. The files for Battlestar alone are about 56GB.

But apparently no one has any recommendations on this subject so far, which is ruining a perfectly good stereotype in my mind.

Do you know whether or not it is against the site rules for us to do a Hey-Ai movie night? Or is it only breaking the rules if we post the links for it in the forums?

I don't see why it would be. You can't promote your own Tinychat accounts or sites, but a movie night for site members itself should be in the rules?

But it is a movie/chat thing...

We really have to find something that will play .avi or mkv files though. Hopefully someone wil HALP! HALP US!

Good thread, I've been looking a solid program to do this for a while. Even proposed a feature to the BBC which would allow iPlayer to sync up and chat with friends.

We used to do a countdown in Skype for this. "3, 2, 1, Play". Became a hassle when either of us needed a toilet break, though.
