Retro Korean music - from 1990s to 2000s - 1

Dear members!
Hi, my name is Conan and I would like to share some of the awesome Korean music that not many people know about.
I don't really listen to a lot of new Korean bands but usually old ones around early 2000's, and some OSTs of TV show and Movies. However, I feel that some of the videos that I came across are bit underrated compared to some of the popular ones. Also I would like to introduce some retro Korean music when K-pop was not that popular.
Many of these videos are from late 1990s to early 2000s, when K-pop is not well known, with some latest ones.

1. Cool(쿨)
This group used to be known as "summer trio" that always produces
big hits every summer from late 90's to early 2000's in Korea, and their hilarious but somewhat serious and touching charactersitics has been well received regardless of generations. Here are some of their great songs that are loved by millions across the generations.

- Destiny (운명)


- A Girl on the Beach (해변의 여인)


- All For You (Also used as O.S.T for "Reply 1997")


2. Turbo(터보).
The band is composed of two members "Miky" and "Kim Jong-Kook", Jong-Kook is known for his appearance in running man, which is surprisingly popular show among international fans. He is also a known singer, but he started out as a duo with Miky, as a team called "Turbo" that has created many
mega hits during early to late 1990's. This is a song that is still sung in Karaoke by many Koreans who are in their 30 to 40s, among their many hits.

3. Sung Si Kyung(성시경).
Many guys in Korea don't like him for his Prince-like image, but I really like his soothing voice. You are about to experience the whole new world, here are some of his masterpieces.

4. S.E.S
One of the Legendary Girl Groups in K-pop history from SMENT, they go way back from this era of SNSD, 2NE1, and so on. Their music has sold million copies nation wide. However, their music was received well by the public compared to the other contemporary competitors, due to their innovative sound.

5. H.O.T (High Five of Teenagers)
The group that started male group craze in Korea, and remains as the legendary band in Korean music scene, also managed by SMENT. They are known for their epic music style, complicated coreography, and exotic fashion. Their music is combination of hip-hop, rock, and pop, and is quite difficult to define in one category.

5. Park Ji Yoon
she used to be very popular female solo artist that has sung many memorable songs that are still listened by many Koreans these days.

yes there is a list of people waiting for me to upload my music. i will do it soon. i don't know why i procrastinate on it so much. i'm just used to performing at recitals/concerts, feels a little awkward performing for a webcam.

It is surprising how you knew S.E.S and H.O.T.
It brings me back memories when I was young everytime I listen to them.
Well are you planning to perform in front of webcam?, wow that is interesting.

Wow so many links/videos I remember that group H.O.T. was ridiculously popular while I was living there as a kid back in the 90s.

I dislike Korean music! But there are few who I think are "good for Korean musicians." And here are some from the 90's that I do incline to.

This is actually my favorite Korean song.



I used to sing this song a lot in karaoke. I especially love the French narration in the middle.



This band made dramatic comeback during the 90's. Now they have regained their popularity because of the band leader Kim Tae-won's participation in South Korea's variety TV shows. I honestly believe that Korean fans are just too stupid for their music.



If anyone is to ask me what Korean song I think have captured the "Korean feelings," I will give them this one. Unlike some of younger bands who incline more toward Japanese sentiment(which I also like), this is very "Korean."



There was a time during the 90's when techno became very popular. Here's really good one from that era.



This is probably my favorite band from South Korea.



1990's was also a decade when we had South Korea's first death metal band.



While there were lots of plagiarism of Japanese music during the 90's, it was also the decade when some of South Korean rock music had lean toward "Japanese sound." And here is one of them.



Here's one of rare music for Korean bands that captured the dark element. These guys are probably South Korea's first "visual" rock band.
