Can't forget:

Clon

1TYM

Jinusean

But can't ever forget Yoo Seung Jun. That guy is, and always will be, my hero. Also warmly remember Baby VOX, Koyotae, and Uhm Jung Hwa.

Illusivehorizon, Wow how do you know Seo Taiji?
Well I`m really surprised that you know of him.
He is a legendary figure in Korean music, but I thought he is not as known as the ones that are popular now.
Do you also know his other songs like Morning Snow, Ultramania, Tank, and his old Seo Taiji and Boys singles like You in the Fantasy and I know?
Yes, he just release new singles, they are pretty good.

Koreanromeo, I appreciate your reply and those are some great pieces of work too, thanks a lot!

Well I`m not sure if there was a trend to plagiarize Japanese music, as I've listened to some Japanese ones and, honestly in my opinion they don't really give off same feelings.
I can see that some songs kinda sound similar but still I think two music scenes are really different.

So I cannot agree to the idea that Korean music used to copy Japanese trend, well there might have been some that are influenced, but not from my perspective.

I am not a fan of Visual Kei, but I believe that there are people that enjoy such type of music in Korea, so there may have been the ones that are influenced by it.

I also like 'Next', they were also a legendary band. The leader of the band `Shin He Cheoul`just passed away in Korea, which has been headlining the major media in Korea for last few days, to remember his work and presence in the music scene.

Having lived through the 90's in my 20's, I remember quite well that plagiarizing Japanese music was well-known issues. There are two types of plagiarism. One, is exact copy of the entire song melody by melody. And other is copying overall melodies and rhythms with addition to certain extra notes or slight changes so it doesn't look too obvious. Common understanding of plagiarism among Koreans then was the first one. But if we were to consider the latter case as well, there were way more Koreans songs that have copied Japanese music. This was actually possible then because Japanese music weren't introduced to Korean fans because South Korea was still in their cultural embargo against Japan.

I do remember there were numerous cases in the 90's where popular song will be accused and eventually proven that a song-writer have plagiarized a Japanese song(which a song-writer was likely to deny), and get the song prevented from playing. Shin Hae-chul even wrote a blog criticizing some of these musicians.

I actually found out yesterday right after I made my previous post. In other word, I posted N.EX.T.'s song without even knowing Shin Hae-chul passed away. I'm still extremely shocked as I'm writing this. I really liked him in many level, from the fact that he wasn't just another pop singer but someone who always pushed himself to make experimental and progressive music. I also liked him a lot as a social commentator. He gave lectures in universities as well as participated in TV debates on social and political issues. He was also very entertaining when he appeared in TV shows because of his humor and wittiness. Lot of my hoobae from college really worshipped him like a god, and even nicknamed me as "Rock columnist," borrowed from Shin's nickname "Pop columnist." :) He will be truly missed.

RIP Shin Hae-chul.

Oh, and whatever happened to your other thread?

Well I see thanks for information, yes you might be right, I'm aware of the cultural situation between Korea and Japan. I never noticed that that would be the case, but I still think that Korean music is different than Japanese music. Although I can admit the fact that there may have been influence from Japanese music to Korean music.

Well Yes it is sad that he passed away, I didn't know that he was more like a cultural icon who actively sought for social justice. He was indeed an artist who knows how to express himself in a convincing way, although I've only listened to a few of his music and I didn't live through his era.

My last post was taken off because of excessive trolling by an unknown user who has been banned. Yes it is stupid, I don't understand why he was wasting his time by picking up conflicts with the other users.

Well that's ok, I still have plenty of other ideas for posting, and I have four other topics going on.

Thanks!

lisalucian, you're welcome.
I'm glad that you enjoyed my posting.
I am actually going to expand my posting into a couple more series, so I'll be introducing more Korean music as I'll make more postings like this for future, this is just the first one of the series.
Thank you, and hopefully I've been helpful in finding more interesting Korean music.
