Somebody explain to me why is it that, if we have the capacity, the resources to feed, clothe, and shelter every man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth, there are people starving to death, without any possessions, and no place to call their own? If humanity were to advance any further, something must be done. Otherwise, we will surely all of us become extinct.

What is to be done? Some of us attempt to chip away slowly at world problems in hopes that one day they will vanish from human history as a distant memory long buried in the past during a primitive and ancient time. But, in the long run, this method of solving problems proves most ineffective. It must be a world-wide team effort, for what good is it that some men must sacrifice everything while still many do nothing? We have it in us, the world entire, to end suffering once and for all.

It seems all that is required for this to happen would entail nothing short of a miracle. In truth, we are a lost generation. Generation: Y has now become Generation: Why Bother? What better time to prove ourselves to generations past. Let's begin by expressing ourselves on this thread. Certainly, there are those of you who understand where I'm coming from and who would also like to see the world change by ending all suffering brought about by poverty. The value of money in the world far supersedes the value of human life. This has always been the sad state of affairs of the human condition, past and present. In order to escape the fate of human extinction, we must turn this idea on its head. Instead, and for most of us, all the issue of poverty seems to be turning are millions of deaf ears and blind eyes.

If you have read all of this, I thank you for your time and patience. I hope it was well spent.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter from a Birmingham Jail (1963)

A new type of thinking is essential if mankind is to survive and move toward higher levels... In the light of new knowledge, a world authority and an eventual world state are not just desirable in the name of brotherhood, they are necessary for survival. In previous ages a nation's life and culture could be protected to some extent by the growth of armies in national competition. Today we must abandon competition and secure cooperation. This must be the central fact in all our considerations of international affairs; otherwise we face certain disaster. Past thinking and methods did not prevent world wars. Future thinking must prevent wars.
- Albert Einstein, from the article "Atomic Education Urged by Einstein", New York Times (May 1946)

I have estimated the average per year GDP per capita if we were to have everyone equal. $10,000 a year.

Unfortunately, the world doesn't have enough resources to supply every individual with a high quality of life. Yes, you could feed, clothe, and shelter everyone, but that's about all you could do. Imagine if you lived in a shack with no furniture, TV, or computer and your meals consisted of grains, some vegetables, and maybe a chicken wing once a month. I don't think many people would do that in order to provide the rest of the world population with basic necessities.

We will definitely run out of resources. There's simply nothing we can do. Nobody is prepared to lower their living standard to reduce unnecessary consumption of resources. I'm really concerned about what people will do when there's not enough resources around. World war 3 maybe?
