Anyways, I'm not sure if this video is speaking for the society of the whole world, but from what I know, plastic surgery is reaaaally normal in south korea, especially jobs on noses and eyes.
You know, it's funny how the general criterion for what we call "beauty" - thin noses, unblemished skin, high cheek bones, cropped eyebrows, muscular physique, toned body, etc. - all result in a single, generic look. It seems that all the people who pass this "checklist" begin to look exactly the same. Maybe the reason is because, subconsciously, deep down inside we all desire to be accepted by society at large so we go to great lengths to look a certain way in which we all have generally agreed upon as being "beautiful", or how someone should look.
However, this so-called "model" specimen that appears on billboards, magazine spreads, and TV commercials seems to fall under a very common stereotype. Guys with washboard abs and strong jawlines, and women with long legs and porcelain skin who generally meet the criteria for physical beauty all, ironically, seem to fall under the stereotype of being shallow, self-absorbed, dim-witted, even arrogant, and just plain dumb. Can anyone else recall the movie Zoolander? So, conclusively, it seems there is both an upside, as well as a downside, to meeting the general criteria of physical beauty. In consequence, a physically beautiful person may face a life-long struggle with vanity and an all too self-centered lifestyle, and maybe even a nagging feeling of having to "prove himself or herself" in an attempt to counteract the aforementioned stereotype of possessing below average intelligence. As the saying goes, it ain't easy being beautiful.

I agree, it's very sad seeing people behave in such a way that makes it seem as if physical beauty is the be all and end all of beauty itself. As I mentioned earlier, I blame the covers of magazines and TV commercials that suggest the idea that this is how someone should look, or something to that effect. It's practically a subliminal message thrown at you your entire life. To the average Joe Schmuck or Jane Doe out there, we've learned to deal with it in either of two ways:
1. We adapt to witnessing these advertisements and learn to ignore them.
or,
2. We may go to great lengths to alter the way we naturally look and perceive ourselves to be, even to the point of radical reconstructive surgery. In other words, we change the shape of our nose, the color of our skin, or even the gender with which we were born, all in a desperate attempt to avoid being perceived as "ugly".
