The US has always been well aware of Pakistan double crossing it. America just needs enough influence to push them over to our side in enough key areas to afford us wiggle room. If you know the domino will fall, you better start securing a few pawns in advance. At the least it is preemtive liability mitigation.
I agree that the whole region is going to be more, and more sucked into a huge proxy war centered on securing resources to fuel the dominant economic control mechanism via monetary/finance systems.
Sooner or later it will be WW3 with the West & dedicated orbiters (US, Canada, Mexico, most of the Western Hemisphere, except for the hard core Bolivarians who manage to stay in power & out of the game or who side outside of the West if possible, EU, Anglo empire, Japan, S Korea) vs Russia/China, and non allied/owned Arab/Middle Eastern States with the rest of the world trying to opt out of the death & warfare or choose a teet to suck.
Kinda stinks, wish it were not so.

I thought the majority of the aid was a form of compensation for allowing the US to have 17 military bases in the country...

nothing ..
they just want to be on good terms with pakistan because they plan to build new gas and oil pipelines. usually it was planned to run through iran but because of the sanctions they build it around it so they have to be on good terms with pakistan.
the US ONLY does things for their OWN interests. so they will chip in a few million dollars in order to get Billions back and to secure and monopolize oil and gas.
nothing great aboud the aid ..

Multi-reason
Economic reason
1. profit of weapon sales : Pakistan army have been purchasing arms from china
2. Gas : Gas field
Political reason
1. Military base need protection
2. stop china and irans communication : in case the iran war , china would support iran but pakistan would be a military strategic point which let chinese oil line in american fire range.
3. CIA need new enemy , talian is the new enemy of US which need,
4. Reduce chinese influence in pakisan
Immigartion reason :
in anti-terrosim war. indian or pakistan looking people are mixed with islamic in media, it is a good way to make bad immigae in side of US or europ. make them hate indian looking people . because indian . pakistan, arabic or islamic terriost are looks the same in western media

Blimey quite an indepth subject. I didn't realise current affairs were discussed here!
So Bin Laden hiding out for so many years! The fighting cost Pakistan three times as much as the aid provided and tens of the thousands of victims.
Where is the money going is always my question!
I personally think foreign aid doesn't directly helps Pakistani people; it only feeds the corruption by government officials. It is well known to the US also, but it is paid as a bribe.
Do you think the U.S is afraid of Pakistan? They need a minimum deterrence against China, whose military is bigger.

Do you think chinese military are strong enough to make american deterrence against them by doing that ? Chinese military still have long long long long way to go before they reach americans todays level in next 30 years.
where did the money go ? most of it would go to the american weapon dealers pocket. because pakistan need to buy more advanced weapons from US and , russia , france or china. to fight what called ' taliban' (which indirectly supported by C.I.A)
against china ? how ? communist already working as slaves of US. all the technology are stolen from US, why do americans need military to deterrence against China ? only brain washed communist believe china is a strong nation.

The PLA is the world's largest military force, with approximately 3 million. That is fact.
Although yes the U.S is more advanced with army..yet I think they're petrified..
Beijing's army is defensive. But the speed of China's military development is making "them" nervy!
China's security interests in Pakistan are driven by China’s desire to contain India. Beijing has built up Pakistan’s military as well as nuclear capabilities over the years to help keep India off balance and focused on threats from Pakistan...
bin Laden's death raid embarrassed the Pak military and fueled doubts about the U.S. as a reliable partner.
WIKILEAKS...defo confirmed that the US Funds Taliban
good topic to discuss!!
