It's a company that encourages you to invite more people into the group and you sell their products. You get money from others that you brought into amway. You have to buy products too but you can return it within 6 months and you basically have your own business.

What you just described is a pyramid scheme. If you need money desperately with no alternative, it can be a reasonable way to some money for a lot of work. However Id advise you to just look for a legitimate sales job instead of ur gonna do something like this. I worked for a pyramid scheme modeled company selling contracts door to door once. The training was extremely valuable and I only stayed for three months after making a couple thousand dollars. It was terrible work and killed the soul. But the training was one of the most valuable lessons Ive learned in life thus far.

The group my friend is in, that I would potentially be in, is all online oriented though which I definitely feel is a plus. What valuable lessons have they taught you that made an impact?

Lesson 1
Dont ever work for a pyramid scheme. They are like cults. You never get far unless ur 100% involved. You have to give your own money to make money etc... thats not a business, thats called a scam. If the business is legit, they have a process of making paper already, they dont need yours to make up for their lack of revenue.
Lesson 2
What else I learned was it was shocking at how gullible people are. Ive sold things to people that they cannot even use but wanted to buy it from me anyways because they liked me. Its a very valuable lesson to learn how to control a conversation and mix in business inbetween the relationship building and etc.
Ive heard of these online companies. Pesronally I can say this... Any company that resembles the shape of a pyramid, even if its not a ponzi scheme, its highly questionable to work for. The company I worked for, the owner walked in with 1 million in travelers checks. To show what can be done etc etc. Except for the fact that all you're doing is putting money into his pocket for a fraction of the cost. Not that all businesses dont do this... the fact is at least you dont have to put any of YOUR money at risk.
If its all online oriented... id advise you to find products and just make your own e-commerce web business. Dont give Amway a piece.

A friend of a friend invited me to one of their presentations.. didn't even tell me what it was.. just said it's some project they need help with. I went of course, because i had nothing better to do.
It's incredibly shady.
All I saw was a fake smile in a nice suit, use a lot of really ambiguous terminology, obscure reasoning, and 'fake-math' to get gullible people to buy into the practice and products..
It seems like if you devote a lot of yourself into it, you can make some money, but you have to be one of those people who are alright with those 'less than ideal' business ethics.

Thats another thing. These companies tend to fudge their numbers about how much someone actually makes, quite often giving you you EBITDA or gross revenues instead of net profit. EBITDA = Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. The company I worked, when I received my first paycheck, I realized they had their accountants file me on the lowest tax withholding status so that it seemed my commissions were paying more than they were in comparison having the government take a larger portion so that I can get a return. I was taking home a lot, but I had to make it up to the IRS at the end of my tax year.

It's really all about knowing enough people who are down to do this. If you know a lot of people, you are golden. One of the guys I know states he made 10000 in his first year, which in actuality, isn't that much but Im wondering if that really is his profit or does he have to pay taxes and such from that amount.
I also want to ask if we can quit at any time, how much money they are expecting us to spend because I sure as hell am not going to buy a ton of their products that I have no use for.
I am going to attend a personal meeting today and I'm just going to ask questions. Anyone have any good ones?
and Jin, he has not. He just asked me to attend a meeting and sign up for this.

I thought so. It definitely is a pyramid scheme.
You don't make money by selling products... only by introducing other people to the scheme.
