WHICH LIFE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

The other day I invited a friend out, but he couldn't make it cause his folks wouldn't allow him. One thing you should know about him, he's pretty well off, he's got a nice ride (Mercedes Benz SL500), has a nice summer home on the side, and he vacations wherever he wants...Just one thing...He's practically a prisoner under his parents rule. The stuff he has, all of it, everything he has - his folks got it for him, and even though he gets to go wherever he wants for a vacation, he has to ask his folks first if it's okay with them. The guy's about my age, he's 24, he is practically a prisoner of his own luxuries (literally). He is given everything and anything he wants (material-wise), yet he is only allowed to advance or go where he pleases through his parents' grace and that alone. Guy's parents even have a say in his career/future and who he's allowed to see (both friends and dates). The moment he goes against their word, they'll cut him off completely.

Me on the other-hand, yeah, I don't have a Benz/Maserati/etc., but at least I can proudly say it's MINE. I don't have a mansion in a gated community. But I can say that I can go wherever I want of my own accord. Although I am not well off financially, I am free to go where and when I please without anyone's supervision or notice.

My question to all of you is this:

If you had a choice (one in which to had to stick to for the rest of your life), which would you choose? A life of luxury in which you are given everything you want at the price of your freedom and liberty or a life of uncertainty in which you are not promised anything but the opportunity at least to make something...choose wisely.

I think that with all the luxuries, one of your luxuries with all of that money would be to go anywhere you want and see who you want. But if I couldn't do that I would probably go crazy, not to say my family isn't great and I could probably live with them awhile but not forever. I would hate to have to marry who they said I should and do a job that I wasn't happy with, so I'd still chose the second one and try to make a way for myself.

Like I said, all of his belongings are actually that of his parent's actual possessions, they're the ones that forked the cash over for it so they can pull the plug whenever they want.

Yeah I don't think I would like that sort of life, maybe some people would but to not have freedom of any sort is very hard.

Totally agreed.
Wouldn't be my life. I would only live a life for other ppl but, not for myself.
And tbh, I don't think it would make us happy, not for long.

2nd for sure, the first life the brah is mindlessly wasting his merits. Where as he should be cultivating his own merits, especially toward opening his wisdom and eliminating vexations and the 3 poisons.

First of all, interesting question.

I would actually choose the first one: To live in luxury but have strict parents..

My rationale is pretty simple.. I'm gonna secretly do what I want anyway, just have to pretend to be obedient. I mean, education and everything would've been paid for. During that time I would work hard on my career and progress far enough that I can succeed on my own; maybe open a business under my name with their help, invest in shares etc.

Then I would start being more openly doing what I want. If they can't accept it, they can cut me off or kick me out, it wouldn't matter. I would be more well-off than someone that started from scratch, and I'd have the freedom too. It's win-win.

It sucks that this has to be done to family, but if they want to threaten me with cutting me off.. well, two can play that game.

Unlike your friend, at least you provide for yourself.

I've met many people who have everything handed down to them, and all I can honestly say is it's nothing to admire or respect them for. A luxurious lifestyle may seem appealing at first glance until you realize that mommy and daddy are paying for everything.

My boss is similar to your friend but in a douchebag way. He likes to wave around his parents money and flashy stuff to attract the local gold diggers. And the only reason why he's my boss is because he's the owner's son. And he wonders why no one at work respects him...dumbass
