So yesterday I decided to take a look at how Thai letters were written, just out of curiosity. My reaction was: WTF!

The other day, as I bit into some fusion Asian chicken that was laden in a wasabi-laden sauce, that I'm not used to consuming. I was suddenly hit by the sensation of pain, centralized to some deep location in my brain, as if someone punched me in the face. I instinctively had my eyes closed while enduring the surprising surge of pain, then I opened them to wonder about what had just happened. One thing that puzzled me greatly was that wasabi is not nearly as spicy as the heralded chili peppers like ghost peppers that boast higher concentration of capsaicin, measured in some arbitrary quantitative Scotsville scale. Other than the obvious, which is that wasabi and chilli peppers were using different receptors to produce painful sensations activating different neuronal pathways, the thing that became extremely obvious to me was the onset of wasabi was instantaneous. In other words, while the sensation elicited by cayenne pepper gradually builds, wasabi overwhelms immediately.

This led me to think of a real-life example of circumstances that are wasabi-like and cayenne pepper-like. The best example I could come up with was amusing to me- Say a guy was invited over for coffee late night to a girl's place. In most cases, that would signal- late night booty call, give or take some extraneous circumstances. So when this happens, both the guy and girl would step up their seductive play until it inevitably ends up in the inevitable. But what if upon entering the girl's house, the girl were to tell the boy, "when you agreed to coffee, you meant sex right?" This would totally shift the focus directly to the act, rather than anything that transitions to it, being more wasabi like, while the default is more cayenne pepper-like.

Then I wondered what most people would prefer- wasabi or cayenne chill pepper?

Back to classes in 18 days 0.0 and I haven't even started mentally preparing.
