Hi HeyAI,

So I got into a graduate program at a university in NYC (upper west side) - you can probably guess which school. Depending on this whole virus situation, I am supposed to move out there this Fall. Granted if I am unlucky (my life story), I will strike out on the school's apartment lottery and be faced with the task of finding my own apartment.

Can anyone comment on safety of the neighborhoods around the school, and what neighborhoods to look out for? As well as any gems I should be looking into? My budget isn't unlimited, but I would like to stay within a 30 min commute to the school. I am open to Harlem as well, but Id like to stay in Manhattan if possible. I really don't know the neighborhoods well

Thank you!

Welcome to the world capital of the covid-19 infection, bro!

I don't mean to scare you away, but bring plenty of masks of your owns. Chances are you are gonna need them in this fall and winter. If not, you probably can sell them for a good price in NYC.

I graduated from there. which program did you get into for?
As for apartment, really depends on what exactly your budget is. Tell me the budget and we go from there. Feel free to DM.

And if you are homeless and can test positive with covid-19, the city has just signed contracts with at least 3 star hotels to put you in them on their dime.

Taxpayers who lost their loved ones, jobs and livelihoods should be allowed to file class action lawsuits against him and his businesses to get monetary compensation for their loss due to his incompetence.

Seems ppl keep missing OP's point...
I went to school in lower east years ago and never tried the dorm. If we are talking about half an hour walking...that doesn't give you too many options. Instead of waiting for only remotely related replies here, you will be better off dragging Google map and check the street views. Also, just punch in keywords like NYC homicide map, it could open a whole another world. So to boil it down, take pride in google.
As an alternative, try public transportation.
