Hm ....
make sure you go to bed at exactly the same time and wake up at exactly the same time every day.
Make sure your room doesn't get light too early, but that it's light when you're supposed to wake up (drawing heavy curtains can disturb your sleep rythm.)
Try to eliminate stress from your life, especially in the evening. (Don't use your computer before going to sleep, but read a romantic novel etc^^)
Try to exercise a bit everyday, to get yourself tired.
If you worry about something, maybe start a diary, or take some time of the day to talk about it with your friend.
If nothing helps, maybe see a doctor or a pyscologist.

i can tell u, as a med student shes right, however, a few minor details more, try to exercise a bit, but not within 3 or 4 hours when u sleep. or that will keep ur heart rate and brain activity too high, so u wont sleep.
try to eliminate all noise in ur room, and keep as dark as possible.
eliminate all thoughts if u can, there are different types of sleep :) thoughtless ones and dream less ones give u the best rest.
and if all else fails... try counting sheep, sometimes it actually works lol.
btw, if u really cant sleep within 1 hour or 2 of going to sleep, get up do something light, make urself a bit tired then try again.

Oops seems like I made a wrong post.. I was posting to Karyuu~ ><

Ok since I got here... I'll provide my method to fight insomnia altho I seldom have it. I will drink a little glass of red wine for about 50~100cc. Not too much! Or you'll get up early too. Alcohol is like a light medicine to loosen your blood veins to reduce the tension and serves like a barbituary to provide a mild effect of sedation or anesthesia. So DO NOT drink everyday! Otherwise the barbituary effect will be lessening and lessening everyday and you get addicted!!!

Reading a book helps...but make sure it's not a GOOD book...or else you will be like me and won't be able to put it down T_T
