And I compare a translation book and original, when you study a foreign language.
Comics, a novel, a technical document, etc....

bebi wrote: i've learned with 'minna no nihongo' too. for each level there are two books. one of them is only in japanese... dialogs, sentences to practice grammar and so on. the other one is an explanation of the grammar. that one will be in german, if you buy it in germany. but it's not necessary. the japanese textbook should be enough to learn. there are always examples an nice pictures...so you get, what you should learn quite easily~~
Thumbs up

I didn't know how popular "Minnan no Nihongo" is! It seems practical and effective, covered the must-study gramatical area. I really wanna have it, I can get german one though...
I just googled it, and it's high rated by japanese teacher as well!

It has a Hiragana & Katakana chart + online listening/visual quiz's
other useful websites in helping with vocabulary and Kanji
this site gives all the Vocabulary + Kanji from the genki textbook
www.csus.edu/indiv/s...enki/index.html
This site gives mini practice quiz's
web.lyon.edu/users/m...kiExercises.htm
Listening quiz's
mykikitori.com/index.html
particle exercises
www.all.umn.edu/japa...cise/index.html
i found this site to be helpful when i started learning more complex Kanji
kanjialive.lib.uchicago.edu/
All the sites listed above can be seen on the Self Study room section on the Genki website.
I would suggest your student buying the textbook and workbook though so he has a reference and homework to help him practice. Since the textbook has more practice exercises, dialogues, pictures, all the sentence structures and what not. :} I'v only learned from this textbook so I'm not sure if there are other ones that are better suited. Its up to you which textbook you find to be most successful and I'm sure ones that others have said work well too.

taak wrote: Hello guys,
Recently I teach Japanese to my friend(he can understand basic japanese). We've already done it 2 times without any textbooks. However, it was not really rational to learn. So I need a guide to improve his japanese step by step in a good way.
First, It's difficult to find a good text in internet. I wanna teach grammar like "should, may, can", how to manage to say "at 11 o'clock" for examples. And a well made vocabulary list which has many words to learn was not there as well. Perhaps My searching was not enough though....
Second, We are both in Germany, so we can't get any Japanese textbook in English here. At least I tried to find it in bookshops.
Therefore I will be so grad, if you tell me a suggestion or how you learned, taught.
I hope someone knows.
Thank you for reading!
