I just finished watching it too. One of the few series I've been following. I think the first arc was better tbh, but that's just me. When Kirito took out that boss solo with his dual wielding, that was epic.

Anything by Hayao Miyazaki. I can't help but feel like a kid again watching his movies.

Blood: The Last Vampire, Slayers, and Ranma 1 1/2 come to mind. And of course, Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

Japanese anime humor is very funny, especially the schoolyard/teenie romantic comedy stuff.

I'm actually not a huge anime fan, but I would recommend;

Tokyo Godfathers
Howl's Moving Castle (same guy who made Spirited Away)
Paprika (this is NOT realistic, but it was surprisingly ...interesting nonetheless. It's like Inception more or less).

I'm more into animation movies which ain't japanese....

Not a huge fan of anime, but my housemate made me watch My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute and Berserk with him. I think those are pretty awesome.
