Today is Slayer's founding member and late guitarist Jeff Hanneman's birthday. Their album South of Heaven is probably one of the most under-appreciated album even by die-hard Slayer fans(mostly due to the fact that it has been overshadowed by the previous album Reign in Blood). But personally, I think it is truly admirable that the band like Slayer was able to come up with album like South of Heaven after album like Reign in Blood rather than just coming up with another Reign in Blood replica which undeniably would've guaranteed the success.(Slayer did however pretty much have repeated Reign in Blood with Seasons in the Abyss which was released after South of Heaven - and I will argue that was the beginning of the end for Slayer's musical creativity, even though I still like the album) South of Heaven showed the different side of Slayer from Reign in Blood - more dynamic, less-forward but poetic while being equally deadly. If the album Reign in Blood have a song like "Postmortem" where the vocalist shouts "Do you wanna die?," South of Heaven have a song like "Spill the Blood" where the vocalist sinisterly hypnotizes the listeners with line like "Take my hand and let go of your life."

And today, I will play this song(which both its music and lyrics was written by Jeff Hanneman) to celebrate his birthday. Happy Birthday Jeff. This is "Spill the Blood."
