My all time favorite books are:
A Separate Peace by John Knowles
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo

I also like to read the news... I am studying to be a geography teacher so I am interested in reading books/articles about all cultures/countries.

Not sure how many of your questions I answered there haha.

The questions were mere suggestions for things to discuss in this thread. You can answer any or all of them, or you can just talk about books in any way you choose. I don't care, as long as it relates to reading in some way.

Also, I love Orwell!

For OP, I will recommend "Feminist Theory: The Intellectual Traditions of American Feminism" by Josephine Donovan( www.amazon.com/Femin...s/dp/0826412483 ).

You aren't going to stop trying to turn me into a feminist, are you?

I just started re-reading that book. :)

As Israel's attack against Gaza is once again getting an attention, I would like to recommend three books related to Israel/Palestine issue. One book is titled "The Iron Cage: The Story of the Palestinian Struggle for Statehood" by Rashid Khalidi, the other is titled "A History of Modern Palestine" by an Israeli historian named Ilan Pappe, and the last one is titled "Fateful Triangle: The United States, Israel and the Palestinians" by famous linguist and political analyst Noam Chomsky. They all get deeper into the historical root to issue by issue of Israel/Palestine conflicts.(And Chomsky's work also deals particularly on how mainstream media works to cover this conflict)

Also, with aftermath of Eliot Rodger's case and rise of "men's right" activism, I will also recommend one book titled "Backlash: the Undeclared War against American Women" by Susan Faludi, which debunk how "feminism" has ruined women and that women are more miserable since the 60's. The book also analyze the rise of the New Right movement in the 70's along with change of their progressive-sounding rhetorics.

And as tension in the Korean peninsula inevitably rises as media often demonize and mock North Korea, I also would like to recommend my favorite best book on the issues of North/South Korea that are available in English language - it's "North Korea/South Korea: U.S. Policy at a Time of Crisis" by John Feffer. Despite its small size(it's only 173 pages long), the book does wonderful job painting both historical and political aspects of the issue with chapter titles like "Conquered and Divided," "The View from Pyongyang," "The View from Washington," "Gunboat Globalization" and "The Road to Unification." There really aren't that many good book on North Korea that are available in English, but I will pick this one as one of the best.(And maybe with Gavan McCormack's "Target North Korea" )

I shamelessly indulged myself to all 13 of the True blood(southern vampire) books recently. I only regret reading the last book. Jane eyre is pretty good, george orwell books are great, fanfiction is amazing, lol

On a serious note though if you like orwell books, you might like fahrenheit 451.
