Also, as far as the US goes, we're already in a war. Another war would be costly. Not to mention we are in no economic state to support another. We need to fix shit in our own country first.
Everyone is going to have a different opinion on where and how our money should be spent. I don't care if I pay an extra half cent to put down some psycho. If you don't want to spend the less then half cent in tax dollars, then write to your congressman. I know it adds up, but what this guy did is horrible.

However, let's be frank.
I don't care about Uganda or Kony as much as I care about the welfare of MY country.
Yes, please donate to other countries and their causes; surely WE don't need any help. I won't ironically list all the issues that America is currently facing, because there's no longer a point. It's not like our problems matter anymore! Before the video, people didn't even know Uganda was a damn country in Africa.
I'll all for spreading "awareness" but let's worry about our own asses before we go start saving others'?

Still, Kony’s a bad guy, and he’s been around a while. Which is why the US has been involved in stopping him for years. U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) has sent multiple missions to capture or kill Kony over the years. And they’ve failed time and time again, each provoking a ferocious response and increased retaliative slaughter. The issue with taking out a man who uses a child army is that his bodyguards are children. Any effort to capture or kill him will almost certainly result in many children’s deaths, an impact that needs to be minimized as much as possible. Each attempt brings more retaliation. And yet Invisible Children funds this military intervention. Kony has been involved in peace talks in the past, which have fallen through. But Invisible Children is now focusing on military intervention.
Military intervention may or may not be the right idea, but people supporting KONY 2012 probably don’t realize they’re helping fund the Ugandan military who are themselves raping and looting away. If people know this and still support Invisible Children because they feel it’s the best solution based on their knowledge and research, I have no issue with that. But I don’t think most people are in that position, and that’s a problem.

I write too much and I wonder if others think likewise.....
We may all need to fix our own problems, but if we are UNwilling to help others, the world will only grow worse much, much faster. Like they stated in the first 10 minutes---it is about connecting and relating to each other....even if we somehow fail at stopping something, we didn't exactly fail each other. The same with natural disasters----tragic, but regardless, it brings out the best or worst in others and reminds them what they take for granted.
We should always be focusing on keeping stable, but also, on keeping our relations with others stable, and not burning bridges....some things are accomplished best over time, from refocusing on various points to keep them in balance, no?
Not only that, but if your own personal life is a bit depressing, yet you are still willing to reach out to someone else, what does that say?
I mean, when I read a story with a character that offers what little bread he has, he gains the most trust and support, regardless who he really is---you have seen him at his worst, and know he can still be trustworthy.
The more of us that say "I have no time for this or that" these days, despite technology doing half of our workload for us, really do have time......but we will endlessly justify it.
Aside that, honestly, for what you waste your money on every day, what honestly is $2 than? going to something a bit more important than booze, a can of sugar pop that gives you cancer, the latest gadget, or a new pair of high heels, or a stick of make up, in which you spend hundreds on, but somehow that toonie you lost in your pocket is too much?
No matter how cynical and pessimistic I am, I at least can say that much......not because I am naively driven by media, but because I know I can do better.
Maybe I should find a different way to say it, in a more extreme situation
would we rather die in isolation and bitterness as a country, against our own people even, or would we rather die doing something worthwhile?
Back to my non-pro-active corner now.......

ItsBekiTime wrote: Haha i understand. Well he's been told he's going to get arrested so he keep changing his location, so they are trying to train the army to find him with out the equipment (because they cant afford it) they arnt going to hurt the kids. they are trying to save them. they just want to find Kony to stop him.
How can they not hurt the kids if all Kony's bodyguards are children. Armed with guns. Shooting at you. Would you kill all of the children to get to him?
And if you read my prior post, U.S. Africa Command has been trying to stop him for years and have failed numerous times.
I don't think buying some overpriced bracelets will change much.

however, are the kids trained to find snipers, I wonder
I mean, there are a bit less-direct approaches to going about it after you locate him
not just charging in like a crazy person

Remember you can always give your money to more reputable charities who don't refuse to externally audited and you know the money is being spent in good faith
