Remember you can always give your money to more reputable charities who don't refuse to externally audited and you know the money is being spent in good faith

I admit they could do without the bracelets and dvds on that spending list. I think sometimes groups just overdo it and think it's a great idea to make cool bracelets----not because they are bad spenders per say, just because it feels like a creative way to go about their cause, but than distract themselves from the original goal a little.
This is what I feel when I am ambitious about something---I get too many ideas, but cannot possible afford them all.

Ok so I washed the Kony video. Reaction? "eehhrr..." When groups of young people are called in to support a cause, makes me think they are targeted for their proclivity to contribute money and believe in things they do not given the full picture of.

I know this because I used to work in sales, and our main target demo was young people.

There are several things I would like to point out.

- A lot of your money goes to supporting armed groups that are just as bad as LRA if not worse. The sudanese army discharged 20000 child soldiers not so long ago, and UN still can not confirm that the Sudanese army is free of child soldiers. The ugandan army have been raping, killing and looting innocent people for years. Everyone seems to ignore their crimes. They are poorly controlled and cause almost as much harm as the LRA.

- The 100 US troops are not the first US troops in africa to capture Kony. US has always maintained a presence in africa through Africom. The government doesn't want to mention africom because many of its operations have ended as colossal failures. A pretty good example is the 1998 attempt to capture Kony. Why did they fail? because the ugandan army didn't cooperate fully. Sometimes the ugandans even ignored US directions and advice.

- The Ugandan and Sudanese armies have a reason to not capture Kony. As soon as they capture Kony, the cash flow from invisible children and other charities will stop. They are more than likely to drag the arrest as long as they can.

- Invisible children has a pretty dodgy record. Charity Navigator only gave them 2/4 for financial accountability. This is really bad compared to 4/4 for most charities.

- Invisible children has misled and manipulated viewers using old videos and information.

- Kony carries out retaliatory strikes on nearby villages after each failed capture attempt. A lot of innocent people are going to suffer due to extended Kony campaign.

Please activists do your research before you rush into anything.

The Kony 2012 campaign seems to me a rather cynical attempt to manipulate public opinion in the interests of US military intervention. Why send the military to get rid of a guy who hasn't been in Uganda for six years?

Oh yeah, they discovered oil there.

I agree that the US shouldn't intervene on this matter but the guy should'nt be out there after the things he had done! And he was seen in Uganda on Christmas last year so the guy is around.
