Human-animal hybrids/cross-species was created by Ronin

New guidelines set by the National Academies of Sciences would permit the development of human-animal hybrids.

But the biological co-mingling of animal and human is now evolving into even more exotic and unsettling mixes of species, evoking the Greek myth of the monstrous chimera, which was part lion, part goat and part serpent. In the past two years, scientists have created pigs with human blood, fused rabbit eggs with human DNA and injected human stem cells to make paralyzed mice walk. Particularly worrisome to some scientists are the nightmare scenarios that could arise from the mixing of brain cells: What if a human mind somehow got trapped inside a sheep’s head?

Scientists feel that, the more humanlike the animal, the better research model it makes for testing drugs or possibly growing "spare parts," such as livers, to transplant into humans.

But the lead author of their report, Professor Robin Lovell-Badge, from the Medical Research Council’ s National Institute for Medical Research, said the scientists were not concerned about human-animal hybrid embryos because by law these have to be destroyed within 14 days. He said: ‘The reason for doing these experiments is to understand more about early human development and come up with ways of curing serious diseases, and as a scientist I feel there is a moral imperative to pursue this research. ‘As long as we have sufficient controls – as we do in this country – we should be proud of the research.’ However, he called for stricter controls on another type of embryo research, in which animal embryos are implanted with a small amount of human genetic material.

Human-animal hybrids are also created in other countries, many of which have little or no regulation.

Disgusting, I know. Human-animal hybrids. But they're real and they've been around for quite some time now - some of these articles are dated as far back as 2005. What are your thoughts and feelings on the matter?

Personally, I think it's just that: disgusting and monstrous. I think science is getting out of control.

Despite my curiosities for merging entities, I think it would be messed up to some degree still...I mean, we dont usually think about this stuff being "real".

LOng story short----think Planet of the Apes.
I'd rather that not happen..........

I was going to support it 100% up until I realized you talked about the real world. Now I'm not so sure anymore....

however...if we manage to produce mermaids and satyrs and ceties and werewolves and vampires and whatnot... well - it might be a good change

Hate to tell you, Hun., but this is old news. I work in the science field and this has been around for a bit

So do you stir up evil like this? I hate scientists.

Me? No, I'm working to help find better cures for parasites in immunosupressed patients.

Im not how I feel about this. I think one hand it could be used to help people, but it is something that I wouldn't personally do. I don't like it, but if I had a loved one who could only be saved from a chimeric liver I'm not sure how I'd feel.

But tian, why do you hate science? We're not all bad.

I agree with creating human-animal hybrids for the sake of research.
Yes it is a horrid thought, and I find it disturbing that they practically torture animals in the name of science. I can think of all the things wrong with this but yet my opinion still stays the same.
Just please don't make any Zombies.

Scientists rule this world. And look at it. It is sick, corrupted and full of hate. Yes, the majority of scientists are bad.

Isn't that stereotyping? I mean most scientists do stuff for the better of man kind. I will cease to think that MidnightLattes is bad, she seems really nice.
