*ahem*
It's better for your mental health to not talk with conspiracy theorists and psudoscience fanatics.

Interesting. I'm really wondering if language has anything to do with the different ways of viewing emotion. I mean, Asian languages are a bit more flexible with word order and conjugation than rule-based European languages.

Did I ever show you this? psych.stanford.edu/~...PDF/yw07sce.pdf

I haven't seen that source per se, but I was aware of the cultural differences in processing shame and guilt. Language is also an interesting topic. Evidence suggests that language does shape one's cognition to some degrees; for example, bilinguals process thoughts differently depending on the language on context. Especially when different cultural values were attached to each language, the existence of "dual personality" becomes salient.
Yet I don't know if language has anything to do with dialectical thinking. (Dialectical thinking is Eastern-prevalent but also found in a lot of Western thoughts, such as Hegel, Freud, etc.) And if I recall correctly, people's communication style indeed differs across countries (largely has to do with individualism vs. collectivism) but I'm again not sure if that is directly influenced by language. Definitely an interesting topic to do more studies on.

I could go on, but I don't want to hijack this thread
And I want to thank Ronin for starting this thread, because I'm actually doing an assignment on it :pinch:

Personally I feel that language and upbringing have shaped my life views greatly. If anything, my mind is more... flexible in accepting cognitive dissonance, opposing emotions/thoughts, inherent contradictions, and such. I'm more tolerant of aberrant behaviour and variation in a way a monolingual/monocultural person isn't.

And that whole dual personality thing is so correct. I don't know if you remember what I said to you when we went home, but I feel like a different person when I'm out among Americans versus when I'm surrounded by fellow Chinese (especially my parents). My entire mindset/actions/language/behaviour change.
