If you have chest pain that hurts more when you breath, it may mean lung issues.
If you have chest pain that radiates to the left arm and shoulders, it may mean heart issues.
If you have chest pain along with sadness, it may mean you're heart broken.

In the 1970s, people in California presented to hospitals with sudden advanced onset of Parkinson's symptoms that left some of them completely frozen or unable to speak over night. Doctors discovered that the cause was a batch of heroin tainted with MPTP, a powerful neurotoxin. Case studies of MPTP related Parkinson's created a model for the disease and led to huge advances in research and treatment.

Bonus fact: heroin was originally heralded as the cure for morphine addiction. Oops.

And yet Parkinson's disease remains a largely untreatable disorder. The breakthrough in research came with the discovery of the pathophysiologic role of the basal ganglia in the progression of the disease. All other insights are of peripheral importance.

It is incurable, but not untreatable. The discovery of L-dopa as a treatment has helped to slow the progression of the disease and while we are a long way from a cure, the unfortunate circumstances of those young addicts helped in advancing the goal. Cures don't happen over night, but without them who knows how long it would have taken to get where we are now in terms of our understanding of the disease.

Such a pessimist. Anyway, those were fun heroin related facts, not Parkinson's.

Today I learned that 1.2 million infants are circumcised and that at least 60% of the supposidly "waste" material (prepuce) from the foreskin is not actually disposed of, but rather, it's sold. Several times. . Usually, this is done without informed consent of the parents, who have no idea that their sons foreskin would be sold to "foreskin brokers" (yes, they do exist, Santa). They recieve payment, how much I'm not sure of, but I do know that the broker then sells it to a biotech lab or cosmetics company for anywhere from 3 to 10 grand, depending on color and freshness. It is then sterilized, and flash frozen for later use.
Foreskin is big business, one fibroblast (skin cell) can create up to 4 football field sized pieces of useable, breathable, healthy transplantable skin, which sells at around a grand per quarter inch.
Oprah Winfrey uses collagen skin serums created with infant fibroblasts, 125.00 per 1/2 ounce.
This is my question to you all. If you knew that your sons prepuce was worth money, and you also knew that there was no medically motivated reason to have your child circ. what would you do? Have the procedure done and sell the skin yourself.
Put it in a jar and save it, because

Let the doctors do their thing, your no sellout.
your child remains intact, you know the score!
I'm curious to see what people would do with this info, and the question poses a real moral dilemma, money or mutilation. I would choose to p

Super interesting one that I found out yesterday... Bruce Lee's mother is actually the daughter of an AMWF couple! His mother was half German and half Chinese!
