In the book I read before this:

"Retaliation is a dog chasing its tail."
Not the most unusual or deeply profound, but well-put nonetheless.
If I were you, I won't waste my time on those profound philosophy..

That's from "The Sweet Far Thing" by Libba Bray. It's the third book in a series, so you'll have to wade through the first two to get to that gem. (Worth the wade)
Although... I feel like it's my duty to let you know it's more of a teenage/young adult female novel. But if you can dig it, more power to you.

Eh, it's fantasy and sounds like it has a good premise, so it's all good for me! Thanks for sharing!

Saw an interesting LPT the other say about advice. It went something like "Don't take the advice. Take the information behind the advice." which I think makes a lot of sense.

Anyone who abandons you is for teaching you how to stand up on your own two feet.
Anything that angers you is for teaching you forgiveness and compassion.
Anything that has power over you is for teaching you how to take your power back.
Anything you hate is for teaching you unconditional love.
Anything you fear is for teaching you courage to overcome your fear.
Anything you can’t control is for teaching you how to let go and trust the Universe”
