I think it is the term "share" concerning someone you love. (Do you really love them if you are willing to share them?)
And not from an insecure feeling but from a possessiveness that I would want my SO to feel toward me and me for him
I imagine if my SO decided "share is caring" and shared himself, then he was never in love with me.

It is a topic any partners, casual or committed, married or not, straight or homosexual, should discuss and be crystal clear and absolutely honest with each other before moving forward.

I am a scientist and I have had life experience. In general I agree with Whatusername that there is less evidence for us human beings to have monogamy based on biological and evolutionary needs. Luckytree, I would be interested in hearing your evidence of "some type of animals choosing only one lifetime partner".

Coming back to society where we live in. In my opinion, in terms of relationships, as long as you and your partners agree, it is fine either way. In terms of the correlation between love and polygamy/monogamy (as what Summerallyear and Tashy mentioned), I believe it depends on (1) your and your partner's definition of love (2) you and your partner's way of showing love and (3) your agreement with him/her.

Some of the TED talks are very insightful about this topic. It would be a good start to learn what some of the sex therapists, scientists, and other knowledgeable people find out.
