I've been staying in Germany for the past couple of weeks. Overall, it's a very conservative society especially when it comes to social interaction and meeting people. People are very polite but they are very reserved. It's almost impossible for foreigners like me to blend in and mingle. A lot of people here have known each other for a long time and rarely let outsiders join their social circle. Also people here date for a long time before getting married and they like to meet their significant others through work and school. There is a lot of gorgeous women here but I think most are only open to white German guys. Sorry to bust your bubble but there are better places than Germany to meet girls if you are into that.

Not true at all, I lived almost 2 years in Germany and people are nice with the foreigners also depends on how you present your person, they react.

there is also the "volkshochschule" where you meet people all the time, so I really dont know what are you talking about.

Well if you are a female foreigner, that's a different story. German guys will find it easier to approach a foreign girl than their German counter part. Most German guys can't even talk to their women well. Anyway, I am yet to see one single colored dude with a German girl, it's mostly german guy/foreign girl couples. I find that most young people speak excellent English and I doubt that they have any patient for you to speak imperfect German.

I agree to a certain extend, although OP should keep an open mind when it comes to Germans. Part of the culture is indeed being reserved, but believe me, once you made a friend, you can actually call them a friend, they will be there for you in times of needs.

Try to meet people like expats or other immigrants, who in turn would introduce you to their German friends. That gives them a level of trust as you are being introduced instead of trying to break into the group by yourself.

Also I don't know how much you have gotten around in the world and got to meet different cultures, so I can only judge from your post, it seems you are not very experienced in adjusting yourself. Usually Germans adjust themselves regardless of the country they are in and try to conform (not all though) and in turn we expect the same from others that come to Germany. I don't know in which part of Germany you are, but people in Munich tend to be more conservative than those from Hamburg.

Also the Dating scene, the major difference I got to know from different cultures, we are very direct and let someone know whats going on (at least when we are older) without playing a lot of games, not a lot of outsiders are used to that directness. I am not sure where you got it from that we date a long time before getting married, that really depends on the people. One of my friend got married just after 6 months of dating, so this doesn't apply to all Germans.

Despite all this, I hope you have a great time in Germany and thanks for giving it a shot in exploring :)

Thanks for your input traveljunkie but I believe myself to be very adaptable and pretty well traveled. I've met a lot of Germans over the last 2 weeks and people invited me over to their table and bought me drinks and I've also gone on dates with a couple of women from Tinder. I am not that socially inept but I do agree that Munich is more conservative than other cities. I am aware that Cologne is probably the most liberal city and I enjoyed my time there. I am also a very direct person as well ....unfortunantely, I will have to hold my belief to be true at least about the German women part.

1. It can feel like that anywhere in Europe, especially if you don't know the local language well. Besides listening to emotion all the time, may I suggest listening instead to reason at least every once in a while?
2. You just got there. It takes time to get a feel of the area and its people and to build friendships. You should know this.
3. You're making a hasty generalization of Germany. Your logical fallacy: 1) Very few Germans / Conservatives I've met appear rude. Therefore, 2) All Germans / Conservatives are rude in nature. This argument takes very few cases of Germans or conservative-types, and draws a general rule from it, assuming that all Germans or conservatives are like the specific examples you've encountered. Therefore, the conclusion that you have reached has not been demonstrated, because it may well be that not every German you've encountered fits the typical conservative stereotype, and that the conclusion drawn is false.

I never said Germans are rude. As I said they are very polite and helpful. I was referring to the social atmosphere in Germany.
