It's true we tend to meet our partners in school, university or work because it's not common to talk to strangers on the street. I remember when someone randomly starts talking to me on the bus I tend to think he's a creep or something because it's not our culture. Nicki wrote something about that before. Since first school and later work are our normal social circles it's more natural for Germans to meet their partners there or through friends.
In bars, clubs, etc. it's usually about people looking for sex and nothing more. Guys and girls.
After all the German culture is different - not better or worse than anything else. And it depends on the person in the end. As for me, I get along with many people quite well (American, Mexican, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, and more I can't remember now) but that might be just me.

Then hey-ai is a better place to meet German girls and approach them...bluejun wrote: I just said it was a very difficult place to meet women. As for living, I would move there in a heart beat. But it might be too late...I will never any make.friends there.. Social circles start at an early age...

I was in Germany two years ago and I must say it was not the best experience, most people seemed very angry and were not willing to help at all. We stood in a train station in Berlin tried to ask somebody to help us while holding a map, 10 min passed, not a single German stopped and helped us and finally a girl came to our aid and told us where to go and she was an American...
The moment we got out of the train station a guy started shouting at us and tried to force my ex to take one of his pamphlets, so I pulled her behind me, and bang all of the sudden the guy went berserk, so we almost ended up fighting.
The service level in Germany is almost non-existent, no smile and no eye contact what so ever...
We then went from Berlin to Munich, same experience...
We then went on from Munich to Austria, and damn people there were extremely helpful and friendly, even the bus drivers were smiling and happy, on one of the following days in Austria, we got lost and then I asked a lady on the street about how to get back to the hotel, she couldn't speak much English, so she offered to drive us back to the hotel... just saying if I ever meet her again, I will take her to the nicest restaurant TWICE.
My conclusion is that I don't think all Germans are like that, I am sure once you get to know them, they will become more friendly, one of my colleagues is German, and she's very friendly, but it seems extremely hard to get from stranger to acquaintance. The language barrier could also have been one of the reasons why we were treated poorly, maybe it's offensive to the German people that we spoke English to them? I dont know... but hey I am trying to generalize anything, just wanted to share my own experience, I am sure our German members are much nicer

Man you're really not selling Germany to me right now. lol That sounds like a complete nightmare. On the other hand my vietnamese friend went to Germany for a tradeshow and had an awesome time. Of course he never talked to the locals.....

Haha, sorry mate, I didn't mean to do that, after all, Germany is a beautiful place, so I definitely think you should go there and experience it yourself, maybe we were just unlunky. My friends told me that Frankfurt is a nice place.
