Had to work (yay and boo since its Memorial Day) so late on replies. But I thought to better quantify on the "looks" category, the fact is I don't have a radar that lets me tell who is and isn't a good/bad person. Let's face it we all don't. There is this nice little saying that went around 14th century Europe where "the eyes make open to what it is the heart desires". In some respects, its not shallow saying we sometimes have to go off looks. Its sometimes just that we don't have anything other than looks to go off.

Frankly I've had pretty bad altercations with people because of my ethnic background and I've been flat out rejected by girls because of it too. That was all based on looks and I accept it; let's admit it I can't and wouldn't change it so why fuss over it. At the end of the day we're all going to have preferences but sometimes, just sometimes, we do look out of our "preferences" and find something in someone that really hits us hard and we fall for them.

Preference wise, I admit I lean toward white girls then again I've also had great experiences with a black girl and asian chics as well. So I should say that while we have preferences, we're not exactly locked into them like they're written in stone.

Most of us use whitening toothpastes, hair conditioners, moisturizers, sunblock, or some other formulation that is designed to fight aging, wrinkles or acne. We pay more for that nice haircut and spend a minute more to decide which pair of shoes looks better on us.

The looks definitely matter. Only a question of how much for a particular guy.

Hey, I think this isn't such a bad thing. I mean like, at least for (most) guys, we give every girl a fair trial; there's one single ladder, and the girls at the top of it are the ones we go for first. Every girl gets a chance to prove her worth. Seriously. I think it's because I'm not a good-looking guy, but I never close the door on a girl for as long as I know her; I might adjust my level of admiration for her over the course of knowing her and time spent with her, but never - no matter how physically unattractive she is.

On the other hand, from what I've come to know of (most) girls, they put us on two different floors - the friend zone, and the... f*** zone. =___= They don't even give you a chance if you aren't rich/handsome enough!

I'm not being sexist! And at least I know some girls who admit that's what they do! Don't even let the ones who claim that personality matters convince you - look at the guys they're willing to hang out with - many of them are dorks who simply rank very well on the looks or career department compared to the rest of the guys that the girl is familiar with. Try this next time. Compare the guys they go out with to the other guys that they know - 95% of the time it's the best looking guy that they feel they stand a chance with. On the other hand, 95% of the guys I know are (faithfully) with a girl that looks only 50% of the hottest, single girl that they stand a chance with.

Personally, I think the looks are 60% of the first 5 minutes. The exact factors on the top of the checklist are ones which are in the person's control. For instance, having black or blond hair doesn't matter as much as having 1000 piercings on your body does to me >.>; And a tattoo of a guy's name, hell no. Heck, I think even personality doesn't matter that much in the first 5 minutes. Things like having a life matters MUCH more.

I once met this very attractive blond girl who was on a vacation. In the first 45 seconds she reveals that she quit her job, saved enough money for her 1-year, round-the-world-trip "to discover herself". I asked, "Oh, what if you don't?" "I will..."

On the other hand, trust me, something like education matters a lot in the first 5 minutes because it conveys that you have a life. Or even if you are a school dropout, if there's a meaning in life, something which tells you what to do for the next 5 years the moment you wake up, something that you continuously pour your time and effort into, that passion will reveal itself and that comes across as more interesting than anything else for the rest of the time that we know you. More than your looks or sense of humor. (Maybe it's just me.)

So don't worry so much about how you look - still, brush your teeth and don't overeat. It's not something you can do much about. The best poker/bridge players are ones who know how to get the best out of the hand that they are dealt with.

How about the pic of you struggling to stretch into a prophylactic?? At least be fair and have an equal playing field.

I think both girls and guys would like to hear, "it doesn't matter". But why anyone would ask "does looks matter?" or "does this make me look fat?" if they don't want an honest answer is beyond me. If you don't like what the answer may be, then don't ask the question. Simple as that.

Ok if a girl isn't hot she must have a GREAT personality (nice, kind, etc...but not boring.), if she is HOT then she doesn't have that good a personality. I hope that sums it up for you.
