Um both the USA and cold war were off a basis of idea yes, but his point was the ideas are usless until you take action. Let me make this clear, they had to get on a ship and come to America. Then kill Indians, colonize, kill more Indians, enslave some black people, fight the British for independence and then eventually move westwards while still killing more Indians. These are all actions that came from an idea. You seem to be stuck on idea. With the cold war we had arms races, proxy wars, space program race etc. All actions.
IDEAS motivate people to DO THINGS.
Without ideas , none of those thing would of formed. Not the USA , the Cold War wouldn't have proceeded.
I get it , your asking for action , and I want action too , but you can't get action until you have an ideology that people agree with , and are willing to actionfy their feelings into.
That's my final word.

You come across really angry and belligerent. It is hard to hear your message when you're verbally beating people over the head with it.

I don't think we should be waiting for the white controlled media to change their portrayal of asian men.
We should be portraying ourselves out there in media(s) available to us, and bring the change to them whether they like it or not.

Yes definitely. And there are a few groups that have already started this, like Wong Fu Productions. It's too bad Asians haven't gotten very much attention in mainstream media, like Hollywood. I guess for now our main medium would be places like Youtube

Although Asian-American musicians are making a come up in Western music industry. The biggest one though is probably Todd Park Mohr from Big Head Todd and the Monsters (Wrote that song Bittersweet and Broken Hearted Savior). He's really the only Asian artist that I hear on the radio. He's only half Asian as well. Most the other Asian musicians are normally underground(I'm not sure if Steve Aoki is considered underground, though), or well-known locally. I'm crossing my fingers on our very own hey ai member funkaay on becoming huge in the future

I hear you on that, since youtube is a basically a create-your-own content medium, you don't need to appease the "norms", "status quos", & "narratives" of white controlled media. The most popular yt channels are what most people want to watch. And a lot of asians are at the top of that list (like ryan higa).MikeyC wrote:

Compare old media (TV) versus new media (internet) and you can definitely recognize the difference on how asians are viewed. In my opinion I think we (asians) should just stop wasting energy on "struggling" to change how we are portrayed in old media. New media (internet) is the future and we already have a strong foothold on it.
TV's are becoming obsolete, and i'd love to share what ive heard all too often about this topic (new media vs old) - stop chasing what is behind you
