Doesn't have to be.

Actually it does, at least for our generation.
Even if you did become extremely motivated beyond just ranting (let's be honest, you won't, few people do and that's why we read about them in history books) and seek to really change education, by the time your fruits came to harvest you'd be dead and gone.
So for us, it has to be this way, that's just how it is.

So...you're saying this is so we WOULD start an education reform? Sorry Mattie, but not really getting what you're saying.

Well I'm not trying to be negative but honestly, it's just not gonna happen unless you make it happen. People don't care enough. You're showing interest, so are you going to do something about it? If you don't, nothing changes. Ever.

That's okay, you can always be negative and honest with me, Mattie ;)

And besides, not all is definite. Believe it or not, I actually started talking to the person in charge of student services. Like I said, I'm a man of action and I do have a plan. Who knows, might catch me on the 5 o'clock news.

The structure of education is continuously being reformed by experts in the field, and I bet they are doing their best to feed the youth with the most useful information. Everybody leads different lives and uses their education in various ways. I find the Pythagorean theorem useful in my field of study, but I don't find history useful at all. However, I know it will help me understand politics and law - enough for me to make an educated vote. Knowledge is power - whether or not you use it doesn't matter so much, but why not take the opportunity to learn as much as you can, when you can? It may be useful in your future, just not right now or on a day to day basis.

As for tax returns and 401k stuff, there's google. If you want to learn how to drive a vehicle, there's the dmv. The purpose of our education system isn't to give you all the information YOU need to know for the rest of your life, because that isn't possible. The purpose of school is to teach you common knowledge so you have a better understanding of the world. No one cares about what shakespeare has to say, but by reading and discussing his literature, you are improving your ability to communicate.

If you wish to learn past the basics, you have to do it yourself. In my opinion, the people who choose what we learn have more expertise in the field and I would trust that they are providing essential education.

In my opinion I really like the Educacion in Europe, I wish South American specially Argentina had something about that.. Here if you want tho, you can stop to study at your 16 years old and no one cant force you to fisnish it.
the state implemented a subsidy for those people to finish the high school, as an incentive to study, when I think anyone should or even the state to encourage anyone to complete something which in itself is obligatory for everyone, So those people dont need go to school or something just do some homework at home and TARAN they finish the high school having the same opportunity as me to go to the university and stuff

When I went 6 years to High School and they just needed just 3 months to finish it PLUS with some money THANKS TO THE STATES.

Da hell? thats so freaking unfair to the others.. When I lived in Europe I was very surprised of the German education in young students and I really envy them.

that's why I think I really dislike everything about my country even the people.. They really dont care about to being slaves of the state system or something..

Just giving a simple example, How many people from Argentina in this site speak good english? just try to check out their profile and you are gonna see it.
The Argentina's educacion doesnt really care about the students speak more than spanish, and the these students who really cares about being a better person in the future have to work so hard because they have another way of thinking about everything and the states dislike them.

So Im not agree when people say that the European Eduaction is harsh to them.

Maybe the Education Education makes the difference between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world.

Don't get me started on education reform.

Why do we have to take GE classes in college? Because the educators are probably trying to delay us college students from getting into the workforce so soon.
I hated that I had to take basic math in college (cause I sucked at math so bad).
History isn't that bad if you like it.
Humanities was the pits for me. Well the upper level humanities because the teacher was a mess and I didn't care for it and the books we had to read. I barely passed college. C's gets degrees. :D

In high school besides the basic English, history, and economics/government, I took the classes I wanted to take electives. I was more interested in Auto Mechanics and did Foods and Nutrition for fun. Kids today doesn't seem interested in life skills classes like I mentioned like foods or auto and the education system is changing. But technology classes will be there.

US education can use some improvements and maybe pay the teachers a little more.

200 dollars for a book on nutrition for an online class, grrrr no way -_-

Books will always be expensive. Damn authors want their money back on writing the books.
What is bad sometimes is when the bookstore doesn't want to buy them back.

Bro. Hook it up. You're not talking about torrents though are you?

And lairefaire is right to an extent. It would be really hard to change our public school system right now and if we did it would take a long time. Not to mention that you got lobbyists to beat if you want to change anything in the us drastically. And they are backed by people with a ridiculous amount of money and unfortunately even in legislation money talks

I am not trying to offend you, but you sound extremely ignorant. I don't think anyone has to be educated by a teacher to know what "income taxes" are...or even what a "down payment" is. I am positive that school has taught you how to use a dictionary... If you had common sense and listened in school, you would know that taxes play a fundamental role in a country's economy. Furthermore, how hard is it to calculate taxes? Basic elementary school mathematics. I have 10 apples, but there are only 3 remaining. How many apple did I eat? Oh wait, "x+y=z" is too hard for you. Sorry if I am being harsh, but it's sad seeing someone criticizing a school system, while they lack common sense.

An education is not what it used to be. All of western thought (not sure about eastern) has its roots in Ancient Greece. The first University was in Athens and founded by Plato, of which Aristotle was a student for many years. There was a Renaissance in Europe in which the arts as well as scientific inquiry flourished, marking the end of the Dark Ages and ushering in a new era which would eventually lead mankind towards a scientific and industrial revolution which would shape the world into what it is today.

Students used to attend Universities solely for academic purposes: to study the arts and to tackle intellectual pursuits and to further contribute to their fields of expertise. Now, colleges and Universities are merely companies which crap out tens of thousands of new graduates every year in the US alone. Just like almost everything today is mass-produced, so is education. Community Colleges are like the fast food chains, and Ivy-Leagues are three Michelin star awarded fine dining restaurants. Either way, it's too much money. Young people in America used to pay their way through college with summer jobs. Tuition in the 1970s when my father was attending the University of Washington was about $2000 for a Bachelor's Degree and that was it. Proof: Statistics .
