The goal is to have some muscular definition by July.
Currently I am 141lbs and 5'6"
I have 15 lbs of fat to lose
I was hoping to just work on building muscles starting in January that would give 7 months of building but I still have so much fat to lose.
My nutrition is on point, my calorie deficit is in check.
Do I continue focusing on fat loss?
Or

Do I start adding weight lifting for muscles?
Thanks for the advice!

Our body is in a constant battle bewteen building muscle (muscle protein synthesis, MPS)and breaking down muscle(muscle protein breakdown, MPB). When MPS is greater than MPB, you gain muscle otherwise you loss muscle. Two main things to stimulate and increase MPS, metabolic stress on our muscle(ie resistance training) and dietary protein(specially leucine).
Building muscle is a very very slow process, much slower than lossing fat. So definitely start weight(or resistance) training now and increases your dietart protein intake. Whey protein is the best option since it has the best protein profile to stimulate MPS. I would not worry to much about the addition calories from the addition protein though because only about 60% of protein calories ingested would be used as calorie, if your body not using it for building muscle. And the more muscle you build the more fat you burn becuase muscle is expensive to keep.

Thank you!!
Just to clarify I will start weight training (resistance) and working on muscle building.
I do have the whey protein powder but honestly my stomach just doesn't like diary. My protein source right now is tofu and eggs.
So with muscle building being so slow. I imagine you are nicely telling me I am more than a year away from my goal?
That is okay. I have time. 😊
Thank you for taking the time and the advice!
