Does Saying "hi" matter? was created by CAstarfish
Most conversations in life begin with the least of salutations, such as "Hi." This isn't always the case online. I've been guilty of omitting the greeting and just going straight to a question or statement. I used to make more of an effort to write a proper email, but since 90% of the time I don't receive anything back, I stopped trying.

So, my question is:

Does the style of email play any part in your desire to respond? If someone messages you on here and doesn't even say hello, they just plough right into "So...", does it rub you the wrong way?

More simply, do you care about HOW someone messages? Or does it not matter at all?

The format doesn't really matter to me. I think its fine to get right to the point.

I think it would be weird if a girl was hitting me up with

Hi John,

<insert message here>

Warm Regards,
Lindsay

Sounds like a work email lol

I much rather a girl sent me something like:

omg u really like X? me too!

For me it doesn't matter whether it starts with Hello, Good day or something like that ... it is more important that the content of the message appeals to me ...
Personally, I try to be polite and often wish you a nice day / evening at the end ...
All in all, I can say that it is important to me personally that someone behaves politely. and speaks to me normally....

Having spent a lifetime online, personally 'hi' is the most boring conversation starter I've ever come across. I also use another site , where the traffic is .... immense, and I honestly don't even look at the messages that just says 'hi' or 'hey' or anything of the likes. I don't even know what to answer to such a message. I once actually replied with a 'hi' back to a 'hi', and he never sent me another message again. SO, in other words, a 'hi' message is already over for me. No point trying to respond. Also, like. If you really want to talk to the other person, shouldn't you at least seem a BIT interested? No matter if you expect nothing back? I mean, I've messaged tons of people on this site without a reply as well, but at least TRY to make yourself a little bit more than 'I don't know what to say' kind of person. But that's just my personal opinion.

PS. also. 'hi how are you?' :pinch:
second worst topic starter. These conversations usually don't last long.
Example:
1st: Hello, how are you?
2nd: I'm good thanks. you?
1st: that's good. I'm cool

NOW WHAT???? You're back to the BEGINNING AGAIN. yes, just .....no matter how many times people reply. Try to be creative xD

Not just that,We have a profile here. if people came up to you and asking your age and where are you from where those info already listed on your profile. It’s clear You should move on and not spending more time with them.

oh I agree. getting a message or two asking if you're single, where I'm from etc when it's ALL in the profile. Well, that person clearly isn't THAT interested xD

^I know, I use different platforms. I listed on my profile, I do not see Asian girls for more than friend. And all them Filipino girls got me onto the male popular list 🤷🏻

I find even if you list preferences on a profile very clearly, a lot of people will disregard them completely.

I don't think saying hi matters. In real life, the approached person might still talk to you and be interested if you go and say nothing more besides a simple hi to him/her, because it means you have balls and confidence is attractive. But this is the internet. Try to say something intriguing with the help of his/her profile if possible. If not, say something you are genuinely curious about and if the person in question thinks you are attractive or your profile interesting enough, he/she might still answer.

Also, If the person in question is looking for dates and you are writing from across the world hoping for a pen pal, then it's probably not going to work out.

And if everything else fails, always remember:
