I really haven't read any impressive non-fiction books this year. They were either just "average" or "slightly above average."(I think two of the "best" non-fiction books I read this year was Gavan McCormack's Client State: Japan in the American Embrace and Lee Feigon's Mao: A Reinterpretation) Last great non-fiction book I read was Hester Eisenstein's Feminism Seduced: How Global Elites Use Women's Labor and Ideas to Exploit the World, which I read late last year, and I considered it as the second best book I read for last year(and Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore as the best book for last year). But my reading of non-fiction books this year(same as last year) has been quite a disappointment.

But on the other hand, I have discovered the charm of children's literature this year. I used to discredited them as "kids' books," but I realized how wrong I was. Children's literature can be written in a way where it can be readable and good for children while still be rich and inspiring for adults as well. The best book I've read this year so far, is a children's literature - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince.

So I started a book called to all the boys I've loved before... I'm really not enjoying this one. Want it to be over already!

This is the next book I'd like to read. More theoretical physics. But the premise seems very interesting.

Synopsis:

At the beginning of the 21st century, physics is being driven to very unfamiliar territory--the domain of the incredibly small and the incredibly heavy. The new world is a world in which both quantum mechanics and gravity are equally important. But mysteries remain. One of the biggest involved black holes. Famed physicist Stephen Hawking claimed that anything sucked in a black hole was lost forever. For three decades, Leonard Susskind and Hawking clashed over the answer to this problem. Finally, in 2004, Hawking conceded.

THE BLACK HOLE WAR will explain the mind-blowing science that finally won out, and the emergence of a new paradigm that argues the world--this catalog, your home, your breakfast, you--is actually a hologram projected from the edges of space.

A lot of leading scientists believe reality is actually a holographic projection.

Here's a video about the subject, including interviews with Susskind himself.

Liane Moriarty - Big Little Lies. A pretty good Australian novel about relationships between school parents & teachers, culminating in a death at a school trivia night. Done in a comedic and dramatic way.
