Just finished Malcolm Gladwell, Blink. Picked up Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid and it's hefty.

"Western scholars have only just begun to build up an understanding of what went on in Japanese history in the period between the two World Wars. Much of our knowledge on Japan in this period concerns elites in power, their domestic and foreign policies, and the emergence of Japan as an important force in Asian and world affairs. By contrast, we know little about the origins of the ferment at the lower depths of Japanese society which prompted a broad array of social protest movements in the interwar decades. In particular, we have yet to inquire what it was about the nature of Japanese society and politics that allowed these movements to begin this period with promising vitality, only to sputter and die out in the 1930s. This is the central question of this book which is a study of the political role of organized labor in Japan from 1919 to 1940."

Reading "Amusing Ourselves to Death: Political Discourse in the Age of Show Business" by Neil Postman. Talks about how the integrity of meaningful political discourse has been diluted by television and entertainment. The writing is ok, but the main idea that the author tries to portray is pretty interesting and quite relevant/true.

this link has a series of video snippets about advice, including what this author would say to her younger self about not being so stressed by life: www.supersoul.tv/sup...er-younger-self

it also mentions her book, titled Brave Enough.
(lots of helpful tips from many writers and speakers throughout that website. Caroline Myss is another one of them.)
