I finished reading The Tunnel by Ernesto Sabato recently, and my mom called me crazy for agreeing with Juan Pablo on killing María

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
I have to say, reading this, that it is a good book. It does give you the warm fuzzies, but essentially it's about a young man feeling lost in young adulthood. He threw away his Ivy League vet degree at Brown when he realised that his parents died, his dream of owning the family vet practice with his father could never be realised, everything that he had worked towards suddenly felt pointless.
Depressed, he wasn't sure what he could do, when he was recruited to a traveling circuit, which was the cool thing to do in the 30s. Given his near-completed vet skills, the circus hired him to look after the circus animals.
The book's written in a way that lets you into the world of Jacob Jankowski, you see the fresh-faced perspective of a 22y/o boy. And it really is a coming of age story about how he went from feeling lost in his life to finding himself and his goals again. Working for a psycho boss, falling in love with his adorable and abused wife, commits adultery, drinks a lot of booze, loses his virginity, some frivolous sex, a lot of sexual yearning, making good friends, being broke, and not giving a damn. Jacob was having the time of his life without knowning so haha. Jacob is the straight narrow kinda kid - so the writer contrasts the insecurities and insanities of the circus people, to that of the very grounded and sensible Jacob. In a way he anchors the circus because without him, Auggie would have grounded it to a pope.
I guess I'm seeing a bit of Jacob in myself. I'm kinda at that stage where, I've worked for 2 years, and it's all good, but I've only got 2 months left on my contract. When I finish I will be a fully qualified doctor, and then what do I want to do?
I think I'm going to go away on hoilday for a month to South America, and when I come back move to somewhere more uptown, camp myself down and cram for the british exams. Get myself fully qualified to work in the UK, and then go over there. I think working in a small town at the moment is a good platform because it gives me the strong clinical skills to deal with clinical problems efficiently and effectively. But I need to move on to a big hopsital to specialise.
I still want to go for my post grad degree at some stage but not sure how to fit this in just yet. But I think I've done enough to actually get into an Oxbridge postgrad program already, it's just a matter of how to fit it into the clinical work.
I hope that once my career is progressing linearly and stabilising, I can settle down and start thinking about girls.
But right now, I''ve kinda gotten what I've wanted out of this small hospital, and I'm just BORED out of my bonkers. I want to be in London, Edinburgh, Oxford, what am I doing here??? lol
Hmmm

I think I'll give that book a try
Oh, and I just love hearing about your life. To me it's so interesting and you simply amaze me.
As for the book I'm reading now it's Not a penny more, not a penny less by Jeffrey Archer.
It's about a group of men of different status' who invest in a thought to be very successful up-and-coming oil company. But the man behind the scenes, Harvey Metcalfe are simply using them. The company has not struck oil and he swindles these 4 men out of a million£.
He gets out and closes the company before the new that the oil is nonexistent and runs away with the mens investments.
Since they've been swindled and they've lost alot of money and reputation they want revenge.
That's the basic plot of this book.
