Age Gap

Lately, I've noticed a lot of older men (25+) contacting young girls (under 16s). I seriously doubt a proper friendship or relationship can be formed with a minor when there's a gap of 10 or more years. Personally, I find it very creepy.

A friend of mine had this brief e-relationship with a 29 years old guy when she was 16. She was deeply hurt after she found out the man had other young girlfriends while they were in the relationship. It took her like a full year to get over him. Well, I'm still not sure if she's completely over him. So upon seeing young girls getting contacted by older guys, I feel this urge to protect them from potential harm. Am I a little crazy or what? What do you people think?

But I think it's the girl's choice. I mean the age is right there, so if she still wants to get in a relationship, then who are we to say that she cannot?

Personally I'm not to sure of these age gaps especially with 16 year olds (older is fine they are mature enough to decide on their own).

kidding aside: i think it´s not per se a bad thing. it´s just a matter of character. not everyguy is a douchebag like the ex of your friend. i myself had my heart broken by younger girlfriends exclusively and it took me far more than one year to get over it
take a look around, cheating or abusing bfs aren´t always 10 or more years older.

Well, in most countries, the age of consent is 16 so the law makers think that once someone is 16 he/she has the ability to decide for her/himself (not true for everyone). Big dating sites usually have a minimum age requirement of 18 to avoid legal issues. I think the question is to what extent do we intervene. Is some sort of child protection measure necessary on this site? Discuss.

=P Nah I'm not an ageist, I just think that young girls are vulnerable to manipulation by older guys (law makers agree with me). I'm not saying everyone is a bad guy. There's only a handful of bad guys out there but still we want to protect the young ones from them.

joking lol well the problem is where to draw the line? Cuz if you impose it to rigorously, then you're gonna lose members, but if it's too loose, then there will be people who get hurt. I think it's just a matter of telling the girls what to expect, what to do, and what not to. Impose an age limit, then educate them a bit. That'll cut a big portion of girls who act stupid

well u should focus on protecting people of all all sexes, origin, ages and whatever from any cheating douchebags of all sexes, origin, ages and whatever. but u focussed on the age gap. and thats what puts you in a corner.

The thing with imposing an age limit though is that people will always find a way around it. A girl who is under 16 may look older and lie because she thinks that she is old enough to know better but really she's just going to end up hurting herself when messing around like that.
