I don't understand why your approaches to something you can't imagine have to be negative? If you tried to be open-minded about an unfamiliar situation, wonderful things could happen. You might even surprise yourself.

People have been to a lot of meet ups in the past. There has been at least two big meet ups each in Australia and Europe.
Not sure about the US, though.

I also have met a bunch of people from here. And people who said they would show up, always showed up.

I think people meet in the chatroom (or even through the forums) usually or get to know each other through talking.
It would be nice if you attented one meet up and see for yourself. And then post a comment from your experience, not by playing out scenarios in your head about how it might go down.

Can any guy here honestly say they feel happy and comfortable when another guy contacts them and starts a long penpalship? I wouldn't actually mind but in real life, unless you're a moderator. I highly doubt that guys here frequently private message each other with enthusiasm.

I was questioning IF the guys actually all know each other or just relative strangers. I wouldn't know since I don't know any of them. It's of course different when you actually are familiar with them. And sorry if my comment is too insensitive.

Maybe it's me. Personally had more than a few guys on InterPal who first contacted me and later they say they think I'm cute. I'm not homophobic but when you're a dude and you have another dude get to know you. Then later when you ask them if they're bi in which they later admit to it and it feels like you're leading them on...it's uncomfortable and not as flattering as one thinks.

Generally such guys are more likely to find and contact another dude first. Not completely unrelated but even when you're both straight, I sense that guys aren't as enthusiastic when another dude talks to them on dating sites or interpal. Hence I did have my doubts about the meetup as they weren't old school friends or work peers but their only affiliation to each other, is a predominant dating site. Exactly how deep can their friendship really be?

Even then, I don't mind making superficial friends. I would however never be willing to travel more than an hour just to meat up with them. I would only do that with a girl who i feel strongly in love with and even that is a STRONG maybe to be honest as I dislike LDRs alot.

I see. That's an interesting answer and a nice insight on your perspective on this.

I can understand when guys messaging in a romantic way makes you uncomfortable. But maybe the guys here can speak for themselves. I think it's more like a nice companionship, if that's a good word for it. I'm sure some have a deeper friendship, more like brothers.

Also, if one would stop seeing Heyai as a dating site, one could make a lot of friends -- independent of gender. (This counts for all members here)

You should really join the chatroom sometime (I don't know if there's one tbh, since I'm not there myself, but I assume it) and see for yourself, have real time convos and all that.

It would actually be nice getting to know you if you would let people in, you know. Life's more than arguments in this forums (I think) Haha.
And if you ever happen to find yourself on one of those meet ups, I'm sure you won't regret it.

There's also a travel ban at the moment so I'm not even sure you can cross the border if they are driving. Even if they get across the border there's a 14-day mandatory quarantine. So yayyyyy~
