Imagine Angelina Jolie without make up wearing sweat shirts? What about Charlize Theron without make up with messy hair? Men fantasize these stuff thinking about the looks they have on screen... now take it to the real life... you're gonna have regular girls who doesn't have a glamorous life but want to have a piece of this glamour 'cause men say out loud that it's what they want.
So if women wear make up, high heels and you say they're players you're just being an hipocrit!
Another threat to minimize women... it's very sad....

I guess we all want to seem like the 'alpha' female or maybe just the most glamorous girl in the room. I put make up on and dress up to make myself feel pretty, and to be one of the better looking girls in attendance
Yes, I acknowledge and accept that (probably because every woman repeats the refrain). However, what matters is male perception of their actions. So unintentionally, women who dress up appear alpha in the eyes of uncompetitive guys, who will decide it's not worthwhile approaching them (for probabilistic reasons).
There's the saying: "Approach a girl who's pretty enough but not too pretty to be arrogant."

I spend a lot on them... so I can't get a decent guy 'cause of my high standarts in fashion? Well, boys, this is your fault! If the homely type were very popular women wouldn't undergo surgery to please half of you, wouldn't wear make up to look pretty around...

Jan, you have to understand the audience here. If you're mingling with a group of international bankers with inflated egos, of course it's helpful to look your best. But among Asian guys (many of whom have been told they are social rejects deemed unattractive by mass media), it may be good not to be so beautiful as to be intimidating, at least on the first meeting.
These aren't (for the most part) the same guys drooling over models looking their best on screen.

So you also got to understand the audience here... if you're into western girls (I find ridiculous the therm white) you need to know that they want to look their best. Woman want to be beutiful all the time... and it's sort of a contradiction what you said about the media saying Asians are unattractive 'cause if they were this site wouldn't have one single girl...
High standarts don't mean humiliation towards other... it means feeling good about yourself...

Many asian guys come from a more conservative background and have strong family values and think long term on general. So at least this is one of the very truth I'm voicing out in my opinion but I'm sure some guys don't find it intimidating.
Nevertheless light make up like foundation and thin eyeliner/eye shadow should be fine. But thick ones are quite scary. imho
Magicmaker hit right on the nails. Excellent job.

I do concede that just as not all girls want that glamorous look, not all guys here are shy/insecure/uncompetitive as well. I'm sure you'll find someone who appreciates your attempts to look good.
It's not really a contradiction. The media does beat up on AMs, which causes a lot of them to lose confidence. It doesn't mean that there is no one attracted to them at all, or else as you said there would be no one here.
And not every woman wants to look good all the time. Some get tired of drawing too much attention, especially when she's just trying to get work done. Imagine if it's practical going to the gym with makeup and heels.

So if you're at a bar, hanging out with your mates and a girl with beautiful eyes marked with shadow and eyeliner approach you and strike up a conversation and shows a lot of interested in you not come on you in an agressive way, would'nt you like? Would you go to your conservative background?

Yes, Asians are a bit of an anomaly in how they think about and approach dating. I agree that it can be totally weird for someone from a different culture to grok (especially in outgoing and cosmopolitan Brasil).

Well if she's approaching me of course I'd respond well. The question is when deciding which girl to approach, would the shy/uncompetitive guy *choose* to approach:
1. The hottest and best dressed one who has probably been hit on by tons of guy already (low odds)
2. A pretty but not overly decked out gal (best balance of chance and attracted-ness)
3. Someone who's not conventionally attractive (good odds, but you're probably not attracted to her in the first place)
You see that it's common for my Asian friends (I think that represents a good portion of Asian mentality) to be very practical and not to go for the hottest one in the club. You see, the game is not about getting the *best* target, but the one that takes into account the chance of getting her.
Imagine that the hottest girl gives 5 utils of pleasure for "getting her", the medium 3 utils, and the lowest 1 util.
The odds are 0.01 for the hottest, 0.30 for medium, and 0.70 for the lowest.
Multiplying odds and utils gives 0.05 for the hottest, 0.9 for the medium, and 0.7 for the lowest. You can tweak the numbers as you want in your head but there is an optimal point on the hotness/chance scale.
Just as the Laffer curve demonstrates that raising tax rates past an optimal point *decreases* overall amount of taxes collected.
Of course, you get the Carol Syndrome from this, the paradox where a collective of men decide independently not to pursue the most attractive girl in the room because of her perceived unapproachability: plus.maths.org/content/carol-syndrome
