I put make up on and dress up to make myself feel pretty, and to be one of the better looking girls in attendance

I dunno
if I bother to dress nice, I do it more for myself and when I go out with my best friend, not to compete. I admit, it does feel nice if people admire you----but I prefer to feel comfortable and not be center of attention.

I am competitive, but not in the way that I actually go out of my way...I am just extremely careful and territorial around other woman.

simply an example of the otherwise non-competitive girl. If I see woman hanging off him, I have no interest. Even if he somehow gets curious of me, I will make sure I don't let him close to me----his attractiveness means nothing if I can foresee myself getting severely hurt.

however in the back of my mind, I shamefully admit hoping a like minded guy notices me---but I try not to expect that.

Well, you know that for me an alpha female is not the prettiest or most glamorous girl in the room. In the end I think that someone with average looks can depend on striking the spark of chemistry with her personality and wit (really, I do).

I've fallen for what others have deemed to be pretty average looking girls, not the type anyone would consider competitive in the dating market. They've generally had these following traits:

Extreme self-confidence
Understanding and acceptance of themselves, warts and all
Ability to laugh easily and often (especially at things I find funny as well; note that humour comes in many dialects)
Having unique hobbies and interests, and persisting in them despite others' opinions (fits into the confidence theme as well)
Ability to talk about anything
Knows what she wants and is not shy about going for it
Works constantly to improve herself

That to me is an alpha female.

ouch......

"extreme" self confidence?

aren't you asking too much?
isn't it just enough if she learns to accept herself in this world of expectations to be the ideal woman?

If that is what men really expect of all woman? You are basically asking to date Xena the warrior princess, dude....

I thought I had too much expectations.... I don't even expect my guy to have "extreme confidence". I am okay if he does not strive to be the "top wolf"
I value humility. Enough confidence to respect and trust him, but not enough that he becomes full of pride.

I admit I am weak,
If I tried harder, I'd break myself in two and fall apart---

Hm... yeah I guess I was a bit harsh there. Still it's not totally unreasonable. I mean I've met about 1-2 a year that fit those criteria.

But confidence for me is like what Missywonder, JJANG, principessa (sp?), Jossie, Jessie, Monica, lilpeep, are like. They're all unique and have their quirks, but each of them is unapologetic about it and totally fine with who they are and what they're doing. They are comfortable in their own skin.
