I think they might want to simulate as close the experience of being there in person as possible maybe? Like want to hear your voice and see your face while chatting instead of just plain texting. This is just my guess though. You probably want to hear from the girls to give their opinions as they would know better.

the same happened for me for few times.why would i give my skype to someone i barely know? next time i shall ask him to my house. when i entered this site, i gave my skype to a guy. when we went on skyp,e the first thing that he showed me was his penis. so no, i don't think i will give them my skype anymore unless i know them well before. they want your skype so they can see if you're that sexy and cool asian guy they wanna date, it's all superficial, so don't worry, there's nothing wrong with you, there's smth wrong with them. go ahead and tell them: "i don't have skype but when i will have it maybe i will give it to you". this way you will see if they deserve talking to you. if they reject you after refusing them it means that they deserve nothing. or you can also write on your profile that you won't give them your skype unless you get to talk to them for a while.

Why do girls avoid texting? Well, once a dude has your phone number, crazy shit can happen. One of my sister's numbers once got put on 4chan because one of the dudes she was talking to got pissed at her and posted her number on there. The result: some of the freakiest voicemails ever. We had to change her phone number in the end, and obviously, it's inconvenient to have to update your job and your friends on your new phone number when all of that was preventable.

But shit, I wouldn't just straight up quit talking to you! At least exchange emails. That's a helluva lot faster than this site. :\
