when you reading things like that in English, does it sound any different to the original one? I know English doesn't fully cover ours at some point.
I'm actually reading it in Korean.
Maybe not this case, similar things happened to your history ? Like they did in the social media
Obviously they are not going to be able to translate the full sentiment fully. And some words are extremely difficult(or even impossible) to be translated into English.(Usually in this case, I've seen American authors making greater efforts to explain it fully so his/her English readers can understand things that are uniquely Korean) But overall, I've been more satisfied with American work. American scholars does much better job translating Korean to English than Koreans do with translating English to Korean.
It's funny how we learn about western by history and they learn about us by pop music

Yuri Kuma Arashi, has to be one of the most random things I have ever read, it was like AOT, but instead of giant titans, they were shape shifting lesbian bears.

It's everything I expected and a lot more, to be honest. I intended to be mindlessly entertained by a girl with a blase aptitude for magic and a mind numbing romance to boot, but what I got was a pretty thorough depiction of the social norms and values of Victorian England with social commentary, and a budding group of girls who give you a glimpse into the most intimate and infuriating moments of friendship. The romance is there, but honestly overshadowed by the friendship and the actual PLOT, which I hadn't expected from a .50 cent YA novel from an author I never heard of. And I'm actually impressed by the writing.
I am enjoying this series very much. It's a great follow up to "The Inventor's Secret" which was a shoddy mixture of Victorian society, steampunk, and teenagers whose ideas of revolution were sideswiped by the tingling in their pants.
